Default might be a good deal?

I use pine pellet-type litter in the kitties box. It's much less toxic and considerably more pleasant to live with. The other day I noticed a bag of wood stove pellets, they looked exactly like the pine litter, so i read the bag and sure enough, it said i can use it as litter and its flushable. I pay $6 for 20lbs of generic pine litter. The wood stove pellets were $5 for 40lbs. I'm going to try them today. I was wondering, has anyone else ever tried it?

I don't use them, but my groomer runs a cat rescue and she uses them. Also, our local humane society uses them. They are supposed to work great!

Is your cat on prescription diet for urinary tract health?
If so, I use to use the expensive brands but then slowly introduced the cat to purina urinary tract formula for adult cats. Still expensive ($14 for 16lbs I think it is) but was cheaper than the stuff I got from the vet & the cat has been on it for years without anymore problems. He's going to be 12 this month.

Can't hurt to ask your vet if that would be ok if that is the problem. If that's not the problem please disreguard my ramblings.

That's exactly what the problem is. I didn't realize purina made a urinary tract formula food. i'll call the Doc on monday and see what he says. I've been curious about natural foods too. thanks for the idea

I volunteer at our local shleter. We use rabbit food when a bag gets torn at the local feed store. It works great. BTW, by rabbit food, I mean the alfalfa pellets.

I don't know if this is cheaper or not, but the cats have no problems using it!

So we tried the stove pellets...so far so good. i did do a little looking around the internet and found that other people used the stove pellets with success.

Alflafa pellets are another great idea. i looked them up as well, and found that several places online that recommend them. I wonder if one or the other (stove vs alfalfa) will prove to be easier to find. I'll check it out when we finish off this bag of stove pellets.

We have used wood stove pellets for our cats for over five years. They work great, but I will say that it is the only litter our cats have ever known, so switching litters was not an issue for them.

We get our woodstove pellets at a farm supply store (The Grange), but I have also seen them at Lowe's. (The Grange, however, will carry the 40 lb bag to the car for me!)

I have used the feline pine and loved it but hated the price!!! After reading your tips I hit 3 stores. Bingo the 3rd still had them in stock. 3.47 for 40 lbs.

Works great! Thanks for the wonderful tip!!! It seems to control the smell 100% better!
