Default Pets with reactions to vaxs?

Just thought I'd put that out there. My shar pei puppy (see siggy isn't he adorable!) has reactoins to vaxs. Fevers, swelling, its awful!! I finally found a vet who looked at the fever log and the shot record and DUH finally agreed with me! So I have an exemption letter for my city so my dog won't be getting the rabies vax. I swear it would probably finish him off for sure. ANyone else?

We had problems with dogs getting very sick after vaccinations. That is why we started to giving them ourselves in the first place. Bonus it is cheaper. Just space the time when we give them. We do still have to have the vet give them the rabies, but that is the only one.

I would be really, really hesitant to give vax myself. You don't know how the supplier, or the store you buy them from has stored the vax. Plus not all vax brands are good. You should ask your vet about giving Benadryl after the vax, if you're not doing that already. It might not be appropriate in all cases, but it might be in yours.

Are you sure it's the Rabies your sharpei is allergic to? Not that it's impossible, but it's way more common for them to be allergic to the distemper parvo combo vax.

Our little guy has to get a good dose of Benadryl before he can get his yearly shots. He had an allergic reaction, swelled up pretty badly, and had to spend several hours at the emergency hospital. Since then, each year, he gets a dose of Benadryl about 15 minutes before his other shots and that seems to do the trick for him.

We have a little shih tzu that we adopted from our local animal shelter.
When we got her she had severe health issues that took almost a year
to work thru. Just when I had finally got her healthy our secondary
vet insisted that she be vacinated. She put 3 large vials into her
neck skin. I really questioned her about doing it but she insisted it had
to be done. When I went back to work and was on a long distance
call and could not get off Daisy started vomiting continuously. My
little 5 year old niece was with me and she tried to help the little dog.
When I finally got off the phone I called the vet they said she was
having a severe reaction and to come up immediately. The vet tech
met us and administered something that helped. Daisy had a huge
swelled mass on her neck where the injections had gone in. Poor little
girl was so sick. So I'm not a big fan of vacinations!!!!!!!!!!! It really
irritated me that the vet didn't come out to help Daisy when she was
so sick but just sent the tech out. I thought that was pretty rude.
Fortunately Daisy has not had any other troubles. How long do the
    vacinations last?

Based on your individual circumstances, your vet may tell you to wait 1-3 years for different vaccines. It will depend.

You can actually get titers taken at the vets. It measures how much of the vax is still in the system. The fact that we vax our animals year after year -- just doens't make sense. We don't do this to ourselves and its no wonder there are so many animals having reactions. Something I learn more about all the time.
