Default Product rave and a new pet

We have a new dog, Carmen. She's a cinnamon colored lab/golden retriever mix. She is HUGE. She weighs close to 80lbs and she doesn't walk on the leash well. She pulls the entire time. I actually had bruises on my hands the first time I walked her just from her pulling on it and me trying to keep her at my side.

    Here she is:

Today we went in search of a choke collar just to use while training her on the leash. I really didn't want one because I think they are kind of mean. But our dog trainer uses them, and it would ONLY be for when she's being leash trained.

Well, Super HellMart didn't have the choke collars big enough for her But they did have this harness, Yuppy Puppy Anti-Pull Harness with the promise "Stops pulling INSTANTLY!". I didn't believe it would be instant, Carmen's pretty stubborn lol. But it would be better than a choke collar and definitely better than me bruising my hands trying to leash train her.

I put it on her when we got home and walked her down the driveway (a true test, because she ALWAYS wants to run that way when we take her out to go potty or to play). She tried to pull, but she literally could not. She couldn't get her weight shifted enough to pull me. After exactly 2 pulls, she gave up and walked at my side VICTORY IS MINE!!!

After looking it up online for this post, I found that they are actually recommended by the ASPCA because of their humane treatment of the animal being trained and they are just as effective as choke collars (I think probably more effective just because I know even though she was being choked, Carmen would have kept pulling anyway )

I love this harness! I'm going to recommend it to everyone

It looks exactly like this (this is a Sporn brand)

    Thank you

We adopted her from another military family. They found she doesn't move well, and since being army, they will be moving A LOT. They thought it only fair to her to be somewhere she wasn't going to be uprooted every few years. She fits perfect with us as we are a retired military family

She's such a big baby lol.

What a beautiful dog! I'll have to try that harness with my dog onyx. She just pulls and pulls. It's nice to know it already works before I buy it. Thanks for the info!

She is a beautiful dog. I will have to look into the harness you recommended. Our lab walks us around instead of us walking her.

we have a similar one for our beagle. dopey dog kept choking himself on regular collars so we had to go to a harness. i like this type better then the regular nylon ones you usually see. this is harder for him to wiggle out of.

She's a realy lovely dog, i wonder if the harness would work on my mums dog Alfie. He's a great big hairy fool but he pulls on the lead, the last time i took him out i pulled my shoulder and had blisters on my hands. He has a normal harness but it doesn't stop him pulling, he's a kind of lights on but nobodys home sort of dog. For our jack russell cross (who pulls on the lead and tries to bite strangers) we got her a halti which works great she can't pull or bite.
Can't get a halti on Alfie, he just won't stand still.
