My Puppy is Gone!

I came home from work on Friday to find my poor puppy had vanished. She was hooked to her run for the day. she had to have been unhooked by an adult, there is no other way for her to get loose. She is aggressive with strangers, so I doubt any kid would've been able to set her free. It has been raining and thunder and lightening storms all weekend.
I called the police, had family and freinds looking for her, but no luck.
At this point I'm assuming she's dead.
The only other possibility is that her previous owner took her back (though it has been years), My neighbor saw an out of state car in my drive that day, nothing I'd recognise. There were also some teens driving around harassing her and her children, so they could've got the notion to set her free.
I am so sad. This is my first night in the house alone without her. She was my companion when my son visits his dad.
My friend says don't give up hope, she may turn up, but for sanities sake I have to believe she is dead. Otherwise I'll keep driving around searching for her and thinking I hear her in the night. I hope that if someone does find her, they contact the local shelters. they know I'm looking for her.
