    Default Newer mattress ruined?!!!

I hope this isn't too gross...had to put our cat down..Sad but he was 17 and not in the best of health...needless to say he was in need of some kitty depends and unfortunately they don't make them. He urinated on our newer(less than 1 year old) pillowtop mattress. I have cleaned it, steam-cleaned it but DH insists he can still smell it. We really splurged on this bed set ($2000-paid with cash) and I would hate to get rid of it...any suggestions?

I would have used a little bleach when I steam cleaned it at least you would know it was disinfected. There is also a spray you can buy at the pet store to get rid of any odors. I don't know what it is but I know my sister would use it when her cat sprayed.

There is a product called Nature's Miracle. I have only found it at a pet store. It is in a white bottle with red lettering. It is by far the best at getting odors out. I have 3 dogs and a cat, I've been there.

The Nature's Miracle is incredible!! It is reasonable and guaranteed. I've used it, gave some to a friend and DD and it took care of the odors 100%. Worth trying. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone....I will give the "Nature's Miracle a shot as well. I did clean it with bleach before I steam-cleaned it. I think it is just DH's paranoia that is the problem. I don't smell it at all...and I am not going to get rid of a perfectly good mattress!

My ex and I used to trade off weeks cleaning Tempest's litterbox. Unfortuneately, my ex was useless and wouldn't bother to do that, so Temp, who wouldn't (and shouldn't have had to) do his business in a filthy litterbox, would hold it until he couldn't anymore and do his business on the bed.

There is a product that comes in a big purple bottle with a pour spout at the top. The label is white and has an orange-ish cat on the cover, and it's for cleaning pet "messes". I found it to be excellent.

The other thing I tried was sprinkling baking soda on it, than pouring on vinegar. After I scrubbed it with that, I poured bleach onto it. Then I blotted it dry with an old towel and covered it up with another til it dried. I found both worked and I actually didn't really smell the bleach for very long.

thanks for all of your suggestions(and condolences...) I got the Nature's Miracle...used it, steam-cleaned it again and I think it is fine. I am not going to buy another mattress. DH will just have to get over it.

So happy things have worked out for you with the Nature's Miracle. This is a wonderful forum to be able to find solutions isn't it. I don't know what we did before the internet.
