Parakeet Buddy???

Do male parakeets get along? Would they be buddies? I have a male and female parakeet. However, the female seems to hate the male, so we have them in separate cages. I know he is lonely because he stares in the mirror all day long. I am thinking about getting him a buddy, what do you think. My female is a little older - I'm not sure of age - She was found outside trying to hide from a cat. She seems perfectly happy by herself. She signs/squawks and imitates the birds and cats outside. Michael was bought as a friend for her, however, she would peck at him all of the time.

Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if 2 males would get along or not. We had a male and female in a cage together once and they acted just like you descibed your's as acting. We finally separated them too. Sorry I'm no help.

We have three parakeets, one female and two males. They were in the same cage at the pet store and we bought them at the same time. The female and one of the males seem to be more bonded and the males do seem to squawk more at each other. I don't usually see mean behaviors between them. I don't really know a lot about parakeets, though. Maybe do a google search on the web?
