my dog was attacked! -long rant
SO about a month ago a new family moved into the apartment upstairs. They are trashy and all together very unfriendly. They also have two pitbulls, a puppy and a full grown female( pretty husky for a female pit). I understand that pits can be wonderful dogs IF THEY ARE RAISED TO BE THAT WAY. These dogs obviously are not. They let us know right off the bat that their dogs are not nice. Well, their kids did anyways, since they let their 7 and 9 year olds walk them all the time. I try not to have my dog out there if theirs' are, if I go out there and they are ill go back inside until theyre gone. So Sunday night, DBF took Chubby( our 20lb lhasa apso) out for a walk. The pit wasnt out there at the time. Acouple minutes went by, then their little girl came down the stairs with the bigger pit. As soon as the pit saw Chubby, she charged him dragging the girl with her. She jumped on Chubby and started biting him. Luckily, Chad was able to yank him out from under her before he was seriously hurt. By this time I had heard Chubby yelping and the other dog going crazy so I ran out there. Chad had put our dog in the house, and was running back outside. By this time the mom had come downstairs, she had the nerve to ask if our dog was on a leash, because hers was. I told her our dog is always on a leash, unlike hers. What the hell difference does it make if the dog is on a leash or not, a 7 year old cannot control a 120 lb pit! I filed a report with animal control and talked to my property manager, who doesnt really seem to be taking it seriously. I AM SO ANGRY AND UPSET! I spent the entire night shaking and crying. Luckily my dog only had some scratches, it could have been so much worse. My PM says we all need to sit down together and come up with a resolution. I think its pretty clear cut, a violent pit should not be able to live here, period. I shouldnt have to worry about opening my door and being mauled. Sorry about the long rant , Im just so upset by this. My dog is my baby! and, to top it all off, it was his bday=( Words of comfort please!

you have
every right to be pissed and upset (I would). The mere fact is a dog on a leash with someone that does not out weight them is simply idiotic.
Take care.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry that this happened on the poor dog's birthday. You should definitely sit down with the PM and iron this out. Or move--is that an option? I hate irresponsible pet owners. It drives me NUTS when I'm out walking my dog in the morning and I see other owners not scooping poop.

I'm so sorry!!!! I hope they do something. I'm glad your dog wasn't seriously hurt! Poor Chubby! Sounds like that lady is a umm you know the b word! Stupid people should not be able to own that type of dog! We actually have an ordinance here that after any unprovoked attack several breeds of dogs can not be kept but 3 miles outside the city limits.
My rottie/dobbie (passed a few months ago) was a 130 lb docile baby but I sure wouldn't trust a 7 year old to control her. It is very irresponsible to have a pit or a dog like mine that is not very well trained!!!~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

Check your local laws and see if they are even allowed to have this breed, and if they are I'm betting they HAVE to have a big insurance policy on them (most large cities have this law). I bet these people don't have any insurance on them at all. Then report them!
I'm also sorry this has happened, it IS people like this that give Pitts a bad name and anger me! I have a pitt cross and he is a wonderful dog, but he is TRAINED and obedient@
I'm so sorry for the stress this is putting you and Chubby through, you are VERY lucky that it wasn't more serious.
And honestly? Those people haven't got the sense of a FLEA allowing children to be in charge of those dogs!

I'm surprised they are allowed to have pits in an apartment complex ~ usually it's a no-no. I would check your lease carefully and see if it says anything about dog breeds.
I just hate it when things like this happen ~ I'm so sorry about your pup!Nancy

well see the thing is, when I moved in there was a 25 lb weight limit on dogs, so I thought I had them nailed to the wall right there. But APPARANTLY they lifted the weight limit about a month ago, to "see how it goes, and so far there has been no problem" well THIS is a problem

I just love animals. But it seems like every other day this subject comes up. Alot of people put animals above people . It may just be that some folks are self-centered. It really upsets me when people are not taking care of their animals correctly. If I had a animal that was mean I'd have to have it put down. I don't have a dog at this time only cats. One of my cats took a paw swipe at my grand-daughter. I put that cat out when she is here. She's more important to me that the cat. Well back to the dogs, my hubby is always saying that folks don't keep a tiger as a pet so why are they alound to have a mean dog. I hope you can get this resolved and be safe!

I'm so sorry , that must have been terrifying for you and Chubby! There are laws to protect people and other animals in situations like this . I would contact your local police department.
Over the summer a young cuple with two small children moved in the house down the street. They had a full grown doberman. In about a months time this dog got out of there house oryard and came to my house. This dog had my sister pinned on top of her car, was staring down my 50lb 8 year old niece while growling at her. And on the third occasion chased me back into my car as I pulled into the driveway. I called the police and they gave them the option of getting rid of the dog or going to court, $500 fine . The sad part is they just couldn't understand why we were upset. My dh even offered to buy them a new dog if they would get rid of this one.
I felt bad that they had to get rid of it but my childrens safety is more important. We have owned our home here for 10 years. We refused to move.
