Default Update on Asia & Dakota

Well...as of yesterday, Asia & Dakota are fixed - imagine my relief that Asia wasn't pregnant when it was done
We still have a steep hill to climb -
After the first round of dips for red mange, Dakota was healing up & his fur was growing back in- everyone thought it was over.
But the dummy decided to try & dig under the fence & scraped his neck doing so. Although I put antibiotic ointment on him(it was a small cut), within 3 days he started losing his fur around the area,& began having those mange patches on his shoulders(small patches, but still ugly) & the cut had a full blown staph infection(ICK).So- off to the vet we went.
The staph infection triggered another red mange attack so the vet gave us antibiotics(has to finish them before he gets dipped again) - Dakota is healing fast & he starting to look like his pretty self again. But its not over with by a long shot- we have to have him dipped again & probably a couple more times for his condition-the vet is hopeful that the neutering will help considerably.
To top it off- the poor guy tested positive for heartworms-but we caught it in time & its treatable - we're going to have asia tested- hopefully she won't have them & we can get her on prevention.
I love my dogs, but I am cringing about the money that we are having to shell out to get things under control. I made a comment the other day that I felt that it was a crime that we would have to spend so much money on the dogs- that "it was a crime" that I have to spend more money on the dogs than I do my own kids(I felt pretty bad). Then my 9 yr old ds said " but mom-we're not the ones who are sick".
Wow, out of the mouths of babes Sorry this has been a long post.

Geez--when it rains, it pours. Good luck with the dogs. Glad Asia wasn't preggers.

Oh wow! You've had a rough time with your doggies. I hope the worst is past. I know what you mean about spending so much on the dogs. We had a cat once that would get strep throat every few months. It was aweful!
