How many pets are part of your family?
From reading all the forums on here it seems like most of the families or at least quite a few live with a pet or pets. How many and what kinds of pets do you have? Are they healthy or have any disabilities or old age issues?
We have a cat Tangie, she is 5 years old and very healthy.
We also have Chelsea a 14 year old toy poodle ~she still seems to be doing fine (knock on wood) just old but no major issues.
Then there is Max a 14 year old min pin with congestive heart failure. He is on 3 medications and not doing well so he probably won't be with us much longer.

We have Sam a big ole yeller Tom cat, he loves to bring mommy eviscerated wildlife from our yard. We stopped letting Sam outside due to mommy's quesy stomach. Poor Sam now he only terrorizes our newest and youngest pet. (and yes I do believe this is intentional)
Then there is Todd our youngest pet, a rat terrier/skipperke mix. His ears are so large and perky I pray a good wind doesn't take him away.
ohhhhhhh our little Violet, a skipperke, she is very food orientated. This little 15 pound dog can chase her 75 pound sister away from the food bowl if the meal is particulary appetizing.
That 75 pound lab/ retriever / chow mix loves her family!! She seems to watch over all of us. She is calm, patient with the other dogs and seems to love without reservation. Ruby is our first dog and a wonderful companion.
All of our pets are from the humane society and are definately our family. Not that we don't love the two legged people in our family as well....lol.

We have Sandi - 12 yo cat. Healthy kitty, super fat(she's outdoors), and will be with us a while yet. Rescued 1 province away to prevent her from going to the SPCA, we've had her about 10 years now
We also have Lexi, 2.5 yo cockerspaniel cross. (who's got an upset tummy, not sure what she ate...sigh). But otherwise full of it and healthy. We adopted her before Christmas. The previous owner felt they weren't spending enough time, two adults, both worked full time plus she was working her own business in the evenings. So Lexi is bombarded iwth attention here with 4 kids, a SAHM, and daycare kids(very very closely supervised, my hand is on her collar when the little ones want to pet her, otherwise she's separate while the daycare kids are here. She's really good about it).
1 aquatic frog, 1 beta, each in their own aquarium and a variety of other tetras in an 80 gal tank. Slowly dying..lol. Some are 7 yo though, so it's to be expected.Last edited by mommy4ever; 02-26-2008 at 12:34 PM.

All of my animals are mental.. they all have funny quirks and almost human qualities.tooo scarey..
~two parakeets, that just love to get out and wander.. they like the blind cord at the top, and they get very aggitated if you pull it from the bottom.. I honestly think they think is a worm... and they beg for popcorn
~one rabbit, the size of a small dog. Three chins and is completely insane, wants out to wander also. Is potty trained so that is a plus. Very people orientated and loves carbs..cookies, pretzels...anything a small child would drop. Have to corral it in at night.. cause he wants to wander.
~two dogs, human dogs...hahah.. they are both sleep in the beds, and they are the size of horses. So needless to say we have two queensize beds so that they fit, and then the two kids when they want to watch tv.
~a cat.. who thinks the window is a cat door and she is crazy too.
~last but not least the hamster. She is a sweetie, comes and begs and hangs all over her cage.. has been caught on occassions getting lose...

We have six furbabies.
Three dogs:
Macy, 7yo sable sheltie we adopted 5 yrs ago from another military family that was being sent overseas. She loves frisbees and food. She's overweight, about 40lbs...the max for her breed is 28? I think?
Carmen, 7 yo lab. Also adopted from another military family who didn't have room for her in the housing they were assigned to. She is such a lovey. She thinks she's a 4lb chihuahua rather than an 80lb moose.
Topper, oh gosh is he 4 already?
4yo blue merle sheltie. He's so tiny compared to Macy. He's half her size, around 20lbs with gorgeous blue eyes and black/grey/white fur. Too bad he's dumber than a box of rocks
Then we have three cats:
Caspi, 5yo brown mackeral Maine coon. He loves to have his face rubbed...the harder the better. He loves it so much he drools! He also has a hidden passion for mittens/gloves. Every once & a while he'll take off with one of ours and we'll catch him playing with it, tossing it high in the air and 'attacking' it. He always quits & walks away when he sees us watching him lol.
Poncho, orange tabby Maine Coon. He's our sickly little guy. He has some issue with his skin/fur that we can't figure out. It's been going on for a year, we've ruled out allergies and fungi/infections. Have no clue why he is obsessively grooming his fur off. I call him clumpy cuz where ever he sits, he leaves half of himself behind in huge clumps
Then there's the baby. TwoTone, also a Maine Coon. He's actually Poncho's brother from another litter. He's black & white w/ a little bit of tabby/mackeral like markings. He'll be 2 this summer and is a little pisspot! Fat as all get out, furry as heck, always begging for food and trying to sneak down in the basement to hunt cob webs
NO MORE animals.Last edited by YankeeMom; 02-26-2008 at 01:32 PM.

4 bratty cats...
Jessie: he's 12 or 13 and the biggest begger you ever saw. He eats anything he can get his grubby little mits on and then throws it up. He's on a diet of food I cook for him that's easy on his digestion (he supplements that with any & all crumbs on teh floor or table or counter.)
Tasha: She's 10 or 11 and the teeniest little thing. SHe's all black and she had kidney failure many years ago and she lost all kinds of weight and never gained it back. She drinks water like a maniac and her new thing is when i'm in the tub reading she'll stand on the side of the tub and cry until I pick her up and set her on my chest so she can nap. Yeah.
Jessie and Tasha both love to sleep on me...not with me but ON ME. gRRR.
Gizmo is 2 years old and she's our shy one. She's also a licker.
TJ is our newest addition...he's about 8 months old and he's HUGE. He's an orange tabby with beautiful markings but at the rate he's going, he'll end up weighing 350 lbs.

I have one dog, a six and a half year old lhasa apso named Chubby. I would love to have another couple of dogs, but I dont think Chubby would like that too much. He gets along with cats much more so than dogs, but Im allergic to cats.

We have 1 spoiled kitty, half siamese named Mickey. He loves the texture of the kids' backpack and if were not careful he makes them his own by peeing on them, much to the dismay of the kids. Right now he is sporting an unusual hairdo as my 4 yr old DD gave him a haircut.

We have 3 cats, a red betta fish and a lizard.
Rachel is our little gray cat. She is our oldest at about 13/14 yrs. old. DH bought her from the SPCA when he was still in college, several years before I met him.
Riley is my baby and is about 3 yrs. old. He was given to a friend at about 3 weeks old by a homeless family that could no longer afford to feed their pets. The friend gave him to her mother whose dog immediately tried to eat him and then I finally took him in to find him a good home and... well... he never left. Poor thing gets so sad, depressed and confused if I go away for a night. He just walks from room to room meowing the entire time, according to DH.
Eko is my other baby. He was a solid black stray that showed up in our garage as a tiny kitten about a year and a half ago. He was a wild little thing and terrified of people. Over the course of about 6 mos. to a year he finally started to warm up to me and now lives with us permanently though he's an outdoor cat (I think he's afraid of being inside too long; it freaks him out). He will only come to me (both DH and DS scare him to pieces for some reason) and sometimes my mother-in-law when she comes over.
Mango is my bearded dragon that I bought a little over a year ago. He is the most adorable thing with scaly skin I've ever seen.
The betta fish doesn't have a name. He belongs to DS8 and he can't seem to come up with a consistent name for him.
Up until last summer we also had a snapping turtle that we found half-dead in our driveway 3 yrs. before. We spent all that time rehabbing her and were finally able to set her free again. The first time we set her free the year before she made her way back and camped out in our garage until somebody found her. We kept her through the winter but had to set her free again because she was just getting too big to be inside and, well, she wasn't sick or injured anymore so she needed to be released. Poor baby.
And, heaven help me, DS wants a RAT next. I'm actually all for it but... geez... I think I've got enough critters at the moment.
