i miss my boo
last week my 4 1/2 year old cat started acting kinda strange. the day before we went out of town she ran into the house and hid. odd for her, but nothing urgent. when we got back into town on saturday night, she was sitting in the front yard and didn't come greet us. still odd but nothing to get upset about. she got to sleep in the house that night and i thought things were going to be ok. sunday, she didn't do anything but sleep and drink. never budged from her spot unless it was to drink and she was looking thin. she also didn't recognize any of us. she would look at us and growl.
well, shes now been at the vet for 5 days, and they're still not exactly sure what was wrong with her. her kidneys are enlarged and shes been on an iv the whole time, but they said shes at least eating some baby food now. they hope she gets to come home on monday as long as we continue with therapy, whatever thats going to consist of.
they first thought it was antifreeze, but everything i've read is pretty much a death sentence if not caught extremly quickly. so now they're thinking virus. poor boo, she use to be so pretty. now she has patches of hair shaved off and her fur isn't thick like it use to be. she at least knows who i am now and wanted to come home so bad, i felt bad having to leave her there with those other animals. shes a tad antisocial.

I am so sorry for your kitty. I love mine like children and it must have been so hard for you to leave her at the vet. You are doing all you can for her though, and that's important. I hope she makes a full recovery.

We kinda had the same thing two weeks ago with our 17 year old boo. She was in intensive care for 5 days. Then started eating the baby food also. They think it was a viris of some kind or maybe one of the flu's going around, they had her on iv's, she was also dehydrated.
She's been home now & doing ok, but she has to have the baby food in with her food.
Hopefully yours has the same thing & gets to come home soon. If its ok with your vet, visit her while she's in there, sometimes it makes a big difference with them. They at least know you didn't drop them somewhere.

yeah i went and saw her the other day. our local vet is on vacation so i had to take her to one 40 mins away, so it makes it hard to get over there as much as i'd like to. she nearly jumped on me she wanted out of that cage so bad. so shes at least up and moving around now, i actually didn't expect her to make it thru the night monday and made my hubby call the vet cuz i didn't want to have to deal with it. she has to be strong to survive this family, so hopefully shes going to pull thru.

My kitty had pancreatitis two years ago and it was awful. She was SO sick and I really wondered if she'd make it. Our vet let me visit whenever I wanted and since she was in a lower kennel, I just crawled in with her
They couln't get her to eat, but they let me try and all cheered when she started nibbling the food I gave her (wet food out of my hand...yum) I hope your Boo kitty will be okay.

Poor baby! You too! I've been through a couple of similar experiences - one when my cat was given too large a dosage of medication and it temporarily made him blind and unable to smell (and terrified) and once when my beloved Betty developed a blood disease and went out quickly and traumatically at the age of 7 (I usually have my cats until they are in their late teens). I still bawl over that and it has been over a year now. I love my two furry friends that live with me now, but I miss each of my past cats like the long-term friends that they were. I hope your boo gets well and gets to come home and be happy again.

i talked to the vet today and they hope boo gets to come home today. they ran some more tests, so they should be able to give me an answer sometime this afternoon. said she up and eating and roaming around, but shes going blind. they said her retinas have detached, sometimes they grow back, sometimes they dont. so, looks like boo will be an indoor kitty from now on.

Well thats good news.
She'll be ok inside, all of mine have to stay in because of some health reason.
Bet you will be glad to get her home!Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

well shes finally at home, i dont know how long she will last tho. she wont eat or drink. i put her in our garage last night (thats her and our other kittys play area) and this morning she was gone. how does a blind cat disappear? well she found a way to escape and was roaming around the yard this afternoon. sheesh. i have to give her an iv drip and 3 meds twice a day. she doesn't act like she feels bad, she just wont eat. ive tried her cat food, baby food and yogurt and she turns her nose up at all of it.

keep trying the baby food. sometimes I have to put alittle on her nose to get her going. Or take your finger with some food & put it on the roof of her mouth, maybe a 1/4 tsp.
Mine like the veal, lamb or chicken, baby food. sometimes they are just downright picky!
Keep trying sometimes they are just scared. Is there anyway you can put her inside with a warm blanket? Maybe a bathroom to keep her from wandering?Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

aaahhh thank you! sometimes the simplest of answers escapes me... i tried feeding her while she was doing her iv drip and she still turned her nose up at it. so i stuck my fingers in it and forced it in her mouth. it was like she had forgotten how to eat, but as soon as i had it in her mouth she started lapping it up. as long as i hand fed her she was good to go, she ate more then half the jar. yay, thank you thank you!
