Micro-chipping pets anyone?
Ok so maybe that is not what they do. Will be taking the kitties in for their annual shots and decided to get them micro-chipped. Main reason is that all I can think of is if something happened and they got out how would I feel about not getting them back? I know they I would be very distressed about it. The vet uses Home Again program. Will be checking out the website more.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has done this or is planning on doing this. Growing up the only thing available was a collar and tags, or calling vets or shelters to find a missing animal. Even remember walking around the neighborhood as a kid with friends to find one cat that we later found in the garage hiding. The vet said she may have been hit by a car or something. Fortunately didn't have to put her down.
For me I can't help thinking my kitties give me so much it is a little thing I can do. There were times I had trouble getting out of bed but they needed to be fed and cared for, or they will do something completely silly and I can't help but laugh. And in the winter time they make great heating pads. LOL

One of our rescue dogs came with one and I would like to get our first sheltie chipped as well. I'm not so concerned with our cats as they rarely go outside unsupervised (either by me or the dogs!).

Micro-Chipping your pets is the best thing you can do for them. We have our cat chipped and our dog is also chipped - though she lives with Grandma now. When we were overseas - it mandatory to have it done if you were to see a military vet. Stateside - if you live on a military post you also must have them chipped. When I was taking them from Italy into England - they used a little wand to scan to make sure the paper work matched the animals. This is to keep possible cases of rabies from occurring. It's nearly painless from what I understand. We had our pets chipped when they were spaded and neutered.
Best Wishes!

All of mine are microchipped- 3 cats and a dog. It gives me great piece of mind that if their collars come off, they will still have our contact info with them. My pets didn't like getting the shot (it's HUGE!) but after it was put in, they haven't noticed it.

I don't have a chip in my dog but I've wondered if the chip ever causes infection or problems since its a forgein body in the animals body.
Seems like a good idea to chip them for ID purposes but I'd have to check on other things before getting one of my animals chipped.
and no.......
I will never get a chip in my body even if the animal thing really catches on and they decide humans should get one too.
I may want to run away someday and start a new life in New Zealand as someone else and being chipped would screw up my plans
( just kidding about running away but you get the point... no chips no matter how well they go over in the animal world).

I am in the minority here but I do not want to have my pets chipped or any microchip implanted in me. Working in the computer industry makes me leery of just how much information the government and/or others can get for electronic methods. I logically know this is probably just silly but emotionally it makes me uneasy. Hence, no microchipping for me or my pets....( yet I have no issue with a frequent shoppers card that lets the stores track my purchases and monitor my buying preferences and spending habits....strange isn't it! LOL)

are you kidding? I love the idea so much I have considered asking if they have a kids version!!
I will be getting my kids chipped this summer.
In fact the reason I am waiting is because my vet said he might have a product being tested now for chipping birds. I might be able to chip our cockatiels as well!!~~ Missy ~~

All 4 of my pets have been microchipped and their injection site has been fine. They definately noticed when they were injected and didn't seem to notice the chip after that.Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.

Both of our dogs are chipped and I wouldn't have it any other way ~ have you ever tried to catch a Jack Russell on a dead run? LOL, it can't be done ~ at least by me
so we felt it was the most responsible thing to do. Zippy just had a chest xray for his heartworms and I saw the chip on the xray and it's fine. Zoey is not having any problems with hers, either.
I do know there is some controversy over chipping them (medical problems) but I couldn't find any credible confirmation of that so we went ahead and did it.

All of my pets are microchipped, even the cats that are indoors only. The reason is *in case* they ever get out, because it does happen.

Well had the implantation done. One kitty was fine, the other one complained a little (normal though). Yes the needle is huge which I thought it would be.
So kitties came home. The complainer hissed at me and her mate for a while. She is the one that actually likes people. Anyway everyone is settled down now and acting like nothing happened.
Nice to see other people had this done.
Got a good laugh about the kids being microchipped. Actually all I could think of is, is this a huge field test for human microchipping? What can I say, my mind goes there. LOL.
