Week 34 -- Getting Nervous and Very Uncomfortable
Well, I might have slept 4 hours total last night. I tossed and turned til I finally just got up and watched television for awhile. I just feel so uncomfortable in my own skin. If I wear a bra to bed, I feel too enclosed. If I don't, I feel like I'm suffocating. Neither side is comfortable and my right hip (SI joint) is killing me. To make things worse, when my DH came into the room this morning after he got up, I rolled over to say good morning and got the worst cramp in my calf I hve ever had. It was so severe I couldn't unlock my knee. I sprung out of bed like I was being chased by Satan and tried to un-kink it but it took me a good minute or more before I could straighten it. Man, that was pain!!!
My big concern, besides the lack of sleep and energy, is my migraines. I have experienced migraines before, usually just bad headaches with a visual aura that only lasts half an hour or so. I don't get them very often, maybe once every six months or so. But I have had 3 in the last 6 weeks and for the first time, I lost feeling in my right hand. This was this past Sunday. Then this morning when I woke up, I has lost feeling in my left hand. That is freakin' scary.
I am interested to see what my doctor says. I'm so tired and irritable and it's just going to get more difficult. I am so looking forward to having my body back.

Did you try listening to soothing music at night? Pink Floyd helped me to rest. My doc said it's ok to take benedryl to help you sleep, but I was too scared to take anything......
I got the migraines too, maybe it has something to do w/increased blood flow during pregnancy. I also would wake up w/ both hands asleep.
I know it's uncomfortable. I think that it's natures way of making the Mom so sick of being pregnant that she is ready to have that baby.
Nerves are normal. Especially if it's your first. Are you going all natural or taking medication????
By the time I had my first contractions I was so ready to have the baby that instinct just kicked in and the nervousness went away. You just become so focused on having the baby.
Do you know the sex of your baby? I focused alot of my nervous energy (nesting) on getting everything ready for the baby. I decorated the nursery and even created a changing station downstairs in the living room and on my dresser in my bedroom. I loved the getting ready part. It really does kind of calm the mind.
Let us know what you have done to prepare!!! I learned after my first baby that you don't need all the gadgets that you think you need. Just stick to the basics.

Poor you! I had leg cramps too, but not too severe, definitely not like the one you described. My doctor told me to eat a handful of almonds a day; the magnesium will help prevent cramps. It may take a few days before it works, so maybe in your case a magnesium supplement is better?

My entire last trimester I had to sleep in the couch. It was the only way I could get comfortable. My back had to be against the back of the couch and a pillow had to be under my ginormous tummy. I also had horrible calf cramps. Nothing helped. Just keep the prize in sight, LadyNada. The end is coming and while it's the suckiest part of the race right now, in the end you get the best thign ever: A BABY!

Just got back from the doctor. She put me off work. Not sleeping enough and the migraines are a concern. I think it's a good thing though I feel bad not being there for my coworkers.

Your coworkers should understand. Being miserable is no fun. Try to relax and rest. BTW--feel free to be really annoyed at my last post. I remember being pregnant with Maggie and just wanting to punch people when they said stuff like that.

Lady Nada, you've given me so much to look forward to! I'm 22 weeks and had a really rough start (hospitalized for a week for severe morning sickness and lost almost 15 percent of my body weigh. Doctors say women who have severe MS like me go on to have uncomplicated pregnancies. But, as you may have already noticed, people LIE to pregnant women all the time.
When I had MS, my docotr gave me an OTC sleeping pill to help with the neasea, and it knocked me out.it was safe for pregnancy.
Second on the magnesium. Bananas are good too. Maybe some massage, warm baths or accupuncture would help?
34 weeks is good, the baby is fully formed and even if you had to go early, the baby should be ok.
I'm about to enter what I think is the scariest part of pregnancy. 23-30 weeks, the micro preemie range. That really scares me.
But I am rambling...sorry. I just wanted to you to know I was thinking about you.
If I remember the sleeping pill name, ill post it.

One of my best friend's had migraines almost weekly through out all 5 of her pregnancies. The doctor gave her something...i think it was called Midrin. She said it really helped and I believe she was on it during this last baby. Maybe you could look into that if the migraines are bad.

I'm going to third the magnesium. It's a cheap, but valuable supplement - leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, beets, oatmeal are all good for magnesium as well -use Epsom salts in your bath as well.

Gonna ask my doctor to hook me up with a neurologist -- I woke up this morning and my right arm was numb, but I was lying on my left side, so there really isn't any reason it should be numb. This has me a bit nervous.
