Late and frustrated...
...just wanted to kind of vent. We've been TTC for maybe 2 months. I had my IUD out in Jan. A few weeks later had my first real period. I wrote it on the calendar and figured March 30th would be 28 days. So march 30th - nothing. On March 31st, I take a test - negative. On April 2nd I take another - negative. It's April 5th - still no period.
Some days I feel crampy like I'm about to get my period, and some days I feel like nope, this is it, I'm pregnant again. I really just don't know.
Maybe I just have a really long cycle. Maybe I'm just really anxious for this to happen. Maybe I'm just stressing myself out! I've decided I'll wait until Thursday 4/7 and try again if I don't get my period. I'm also wondering - I've been buying my test at the dollar store, maybe I should suck it up and pay $15 at CVS instead of getting them at the dollar store. Am I over-thinking this?
Thanks for letting me get it out. Our family knows we're trying, but I really don't feel like sharing with any of them!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06) and Oliver Andrew (5/25/12)

How much would it cost for you to go to the doctor instead? You could get a better pregnancy test there, and some other advice too.

Good advice there. It is so hard to be patient when you are TTC - so remember those days. Good luck

~You could spring for a digital test. I know a lot of mommy hopefuls swear by them.
You are well past ovulation right? Almost all tests will pick up results by 9 DPO, even $ store ones. I used a $.25 dip type I got from Amazon.
But if I was in your position I would probably get a "better" test to have some peace of mind.
Having children is fraught with little expenses. Why wait to start?

Could still be your body getting regular or it could be stress. I would wait another week or so and then try another test. If you still haven't gotten AF, maybe think about going to the doctor.
You may want to try using OPKs. I started using them last cycle. I got cheapie ones over the internet, but I was able to pinpoint my O day just fine.
I also use cheapie HPTs. I'm not sure how reliable they are (as I have yet to get a positive), but I would spend way too much $$ on them otherwise.
Good luck!

I've read that the Dollar Store tests are more sensitive to HPT than the name brand tests, so "sucking it up" might not be of much help.

Your body may just be regulating itself. I remember it took my body a few months to normalize after I stopped birth control. I know it's hard to wait because when you decide to start TTC, you want to be pregnant yesterday!
We TTC for a loong time and I went through tons of HPT. You're better off with a dollar store test than a digital one. The Dollar store ones are more sensitive- they were even more sensitive than the ones that my doctor's office uses.
Were you always regular- 28 days for cycles? Just asking because I charted my cycles. And once I started, I realized that some months I had looong cycles- like 35+days and sometimes would ovulate later, like day 23 of my cycle.Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.

I'm not really sure how regular my cycle is. When we were TTC my son, we got pregnant the second month, and prior to that I had been on BC for almost 10 years. This time, I've only been off it BC for 2 months - my first cycle was 28 days on the dot. This is my second, and I'm up to 34 days. I figure I'll go to the doctor if I get up to 45 days or so. I just hesitate to go now since I'll get dinged $25 for the office visit plus however much the bloodwork costs.
It's also funny, since planning on a 28 day cycle, the right "time" was when my whole family got this stomach flu - so I really didn't think it would happen this month since - well - nothing much happened in the baby-making dept around that time! Now I get stuck wondering if my cycle is longer, then maybe I am PG...
and even if I'm not PG, I wish we could just get on to the next cycle and try again, you know?
I think I might check out the digital ones at CVS. I have $12 in ECB's. But thanks for the feedback on the dollar store tests. I did check and make sure that they weren't expired, but I'm glad to know that there's a lot of reviews to attest to their accuracy.
And I did notice that in addition to the HPT's at the dollar store, that they also have OPK's. So if I'm not PG, I plan on buying some to use for next month.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06) and Oliver Andrew (5/25/12)

I don't have any practical advice as I don't have any kiddos and I'm not TTC, but I really wanted to offer you the best of luck. I have a friend who has had a hard time conceiving (it's been around 8 months of trying) and she is just so frustrated. It's been hard to watch her go through
. You are right that stress and anxiety can really delay the arrival of your period, so I hope you feel better about it all soon

I've used both brand name and dollar store tests. The dollar store tests are at least as sensitive. They've been my go to test for the last two pregnancies -was name brand for the 3 before that.

Were you using a different kind of BC the first time or was it an IUD as well? Also, are you or were you breastfeeding your first child? Things like that can make a big difference in how long it takes your body to get regular again. Even the age difference between the first time and now can make a difference.
After my first child, when I went off BC, I was still breastfeeding. It took until 15 months after birth and 8 months after going off BC to have my first period, and I had to be finished breastfeeding. No BC after my second child, it still took us 8 months from starting to TTC to actual conception (started when C2 was about a year old). After this third child, I went off BC and ended up having my first period 3 weeks later while I'm still breastfeeding.
Don't stress it too much.MissSeetonFan

Stress will have a large effect on anything that your body goes through. I don't have experience with IUD removal and my periods, but I know that just a bit after I stopped having Depoprivera, I got pregnant.
I wouldn't try to worry about it. It could just be that your cycles are slightly irregular since the last one you had was your first one since your IUD was removed.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!
