I would have lost my mind had I had a baby in grad school. Now, 4 years later, my husband's going to grad school part time while we both work full time, and I'd develop a permanent twitch if we had a kid right now, too. I agree that Medicaid, WIC, etc should be for those in crisis and that it is irresponsible to plan a family with the expectation of using others' income to cover expenses.

If you insist on doing this, start looking on Craigslist or other places for free items. Check clearance sections of stores for cheap diapers and the like. Forget paying for newborn clothes, you can find them everywhere.
I think it's a terrible idea to be having a baby anytime in the next 3-ish years, though.
