    Red face Incredibly embarassing problem

Pregnancy related...if this should be moved, please do.

Alright here goes. I don't know what's going on here but I am having a hard time controlling my bladder. I have called the nurse line at the hospital, and they don't suggest cutting my liquid intake. THey suggest kegel Exersizes. I don't have a regular doc or an obgyn as of yet. I am seen by a variety of docs at a clinic generally. (I am working on getting an obgyn right now)

I know i need to keep hydrated, so i won't stop the water and juice intake, but i can spread it out more if that would help. Anyone else had thisproblem during pregnancy? During Illness maybe? What can you suggest to help?

I have a particular hard time when laughing, sneezing or coughing. I have to bolt out of bed and literally run to the bathroom. If i am out and about, i barely make it to the bathrooms. But so far (knock wood) i haven't had an accident.

    Help!!

I had this too. Do the excercises and get a package of Poise pads.

missy it could be two things.

This is your 3rd baby and your pelvic floor muscles may have stretched during those previous pregnancies. It's quite common. Those muscles are the ones that you tighten when you want to stop yourself urinating. The weight of the baby stretches them and they have to be toned up. Kegel exercises do that, they also do other good things but I won't go into that here. (that's a haven topic)

The baby is resting on your bladder so that all you need is a tiny stimulous and you need to "empty". This happens during early pregnancy and late pregnancy, it is normal.

I would do the excerises all through pregnancy, but don't expect a quick resolution. Keep up your fluids, that's important. I hope that helps ease your mind a bit.

Ok, i am having trouble figuring out the exersizes, and I figured I had better ask as long as I am already red faced and mortified, LOL. pretty much all I have to do is contract the muscles in the same way I would if i were trying to hold back from urinating? Sort of the pee pee dance minus the dancing?

Thanks ladies for your input, it sure helps me. Angelee I signed up for a Serenity free offer ( www.serenity.com if anyone wants to know) just in case I wind up needing somehting further along in the pregnancy, LOL.

I appreciate everyone's resposes. Until I can get into see a doctor, I will be doing the exersizes.

Lie on your back with your legs slightly apart and suck in - clench as it were - you should feel a tightening everywhere - like if you weren't careful you might pass a fsssst through your girl stuff!!! that is a kegal. But peeing is totally normal when laughing , etc, with the third baby and unfortunately for some time afterwards!!!

yes missy, clench them in and hold tight for 30 seconds or so. Repeat about ten times. And do them often. It's not the clenching bit that tones the muscles, it's the holding tight bit. Think of it as like picking up some weights, the longer you hold it the more your muscle builds up.

And don't be embarrassed. It's normal and it happens to lots of us.
