    Question Afterpains?

I am still having these... and tommorow my baby boy will be two weeks old. I don't remember having any with DD. I can just be sitting here at the computer or doing whatever, and all the sudden I'm getting very strong contractions. They only last a minute or two, then I won't have them again for hours, or maybe until the next day. I've read that this is normal, but, WOW, these actually hurt! Has anyone else had this?

You don't get them with the first pregnancy- only ones after that. . . and the pains get worse with each pregnancy. . .

By the time I had Deana, I was almost screaming in pain when she's breast feed, as they were worse then. . .

They do go away, but they aren't fun in the meantime.

I have given birth 9 times( #10 next month), and I only had afterbirth pains with babies #3 & #8. I have found that if you bump up your iron and take an herb called black cohosh, it helps to get rid of them. Other herbs that are good for this is red raspberry and red clover leaves......800 miligrams of ibuproophen every 4-6 hrs is okay, but be careful not to take it long term and always take with food.

I definitely had them with my first- now you guys have me scared that it will be worse with if I have #2! It was really pretty bad. They gave me morphine at the hospital for it- honestly, I think it was worse than labor, because at least with labor you have a great outcome. After the second day at home, I didn't take anything, but wow- did it hurt!

Well, I'm glad to hear that these are fairly common. They're definitely not fun, but hopefully they will go away soon.

Just re-reading- I SO SO SO SO SO did not mean morphine. Geez- that would be bad. I meant codeine- never had morphine in my life, or the need for it, thankfully. And I'm not really sure the codeine did a lot ofr me. I had the pains for at least a week- can't remember if they lasted longer than that. I am a person who normally NEVER has cramps at all, so the afterpains were quite unique to me.

Actually, I didn't think anything of it when you said morphine. I was on a morphine pump for two days after DS's birth-- one of those where you push a button to get a dose as needed. So, I just figured your afterpains must have been really bad.
