Preparedness and SurvivalSelf-reliance and how to prepare for emergencies or disasters. Weather prepping, food prepping and storage, Keeping our families safe topics. Home security, wilderness survival, etc. Money saving stockpiling topics go in the stockpiling forum.
Pantry - we use it regularly and place most of our loss leaders there. We keep it stocked so that we can purchase most of our grocery items at loss leader prices.
Prepping - means an extra stockpile that we keep for emergencies, such as another 9/11, war, etc.
Do you have both and if you do, whats on your list?
I have both !!! In addition to regular food items we have C-ration.... This is simply mixed with water and can be eaten cold, it is rich in vitamans and protein.... It has a ten year shelf life, unlike pantry foods....

I have some stockpile, but I need to get more stockpiled for winter, and also for a possible war. Money will get tight for us, it did last time. I need to prepare for that.

I have a pantry, loss leader stuff. I am trying to have enough of that stuff to last a year, but I've just started. Stockpiling- I have zero, zilch. I really need to learn much more about this. I want to be prepared for anything- disaster, unemployment, etc. I have a lot to learn!

Patchworkgirl - don't panic. I have a number of great websites posted in the stickie in this forum that will help you get started. They are websites that help you be prepared.
Personally I think we should all be prepared for a number of reasons. There is not only talk of war, but also winter is coming, we have weather to contend with, unemployment or loss of wages (less) and a number of reasons to be prepared for emergencies.
The one thing I caution though - DON'T PANIC. Work a bit at it each time you buy groceries. Take out a specific amount of money and use that for stock piling.
btw - think of how many you can help in an emergency if you've been diligent to stockpile.

This is something I will be working on this year. I will be getting started when we have a little more income coming in. I'll be checking out those websites.
I have a pantry and the beginnings of a stockpile I am slowly but surely working that direction, but have to get creative with storage as we live in a tiny house.

We sort of have a pantry/stockpile. Our house has no real pantry or proper storage space, the pantry is in boxes, with a master list of the canned items in each box and checked off on the list when it is taken from the box and used. What we have ranges from canned soups / fruits / veggies / V-8 & Juicy Juice / tuna / peanut butter / tomato or spaghetti sauces -- well, you get the idea. I have bought these things when they are half price, buy one - get one free, etc. I would like to do better.
This may be a dumb question, but what is a Loss Leader?!
Julie
Be prepared -- it wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark!
A loss leader is an item that the store puts on sale at a super low price in order to lure you into the store. For example chicken legs at .19 per pound.
The retail stores know that once they get you into the store, you will likely buy more than the loss leaders and thats where they get you.
My personal challenge is to go into the store and buy ONLY loss leaders!! I used to not be able to do it, but now I usually can without a problem.
