way to go i've been waxing my cheese for years and storing it in the pantry and that link is so cool thank you for sharing it-and i think that expiration dates on foods are so the consumers will go out and buy more and throw perfectly good food away and like you i have lots of stuff stored past their dates-what did out grandparents do before all this --they canned and stored --thanks again polly---hugs to all fv and their familys
its better to have and not need than need and not have

Wow, I love her. Thanks for the link, it's now in my favorites. I do a lot of shopping at our local Amish store and I buy a lot of "expired" foods. She hit the nail on the head, common sense is all it takes. She has the same attitude about government interference as I do. I don't wax my cheese, yet, but you can bet when I have my own home with a huge walk-in pantry in the basement, I will be trying this. And the bottled butter is a must try.

I have been moving more toward self-reliance and realized that most of the FDA's notations on how long a food is "good" for is really just c.y.a. stuff. Most of it will "turn" and you will KNOW it. Thank you for the AWESOME blog link.

Me, too. (Don't throw stuff away just because of sell by date or best by date.) Groceries are just too expensive.
