    Default Drinking water storage

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but how long can you store drinking water in plastic gallon jugs ??

I personally only keep them for around a year. I use them and buy more. FYI - the bottles CAN spring leaks. Ask me how I know - LOL!

It depends on many things. How clean was the water before it went into the jugs? What kind of plastic were the jugs made of? (Mmm, that yummy plasticky taste!) Were the jugs stored in light or dark? At what temperature?

I certainly wouldn't keep them more than a year. Maybe less if any of those factors were iffy.

I suggest 6 months for sturdy juice or soda or water bottles. Make sure your bottles are CLEAN - I had lovely green thingies growing in one - EWWWW. Also - the plastic bottles need to be in the dark (I started by filling up extra space under the kitchen sink - hardly ever go in there.)

Thanks so much, since we buy drinking water, I was going to refill the gallon water bottles that I have saved. Will definitely store them in the dark. With hurricane season here, and being on a well, I sure want to have enough drinking water.
