    Default Stock Market Crashing? Is Anyone Else Worried?

    I'm really glad that I've been prepping. The world economic situation is making me very anxious. Today, from what I've read, it sounds as the the market is one step closer to crashing. The debt deal that was agreed upon was a drop in the bucket. American IOUs are getting called in. The dollar is becoming less valuable and less trusted every day.

    Am I just more paranoid than usual or are the rest of you freaking out a little bit too?

    A little freakage - but I'm prepped for this (our #1 prep situation). We'll be fine and so will everyone who has prepped, not only 'stockpiled' but prepped their minds and learned and practised skills.

    The stock exchange has measures in place that stops trading if the market drops to a certain point. So it can only 'crash' so far before stopping. Apparently that number changes daily but I saw an example that on a certain day a few weeks ago the Dow would have to drop 1200 points before 2pm to trigger that stop.

    I do agree that the world seems to be very unstable lately.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”
    — From a translation of an inscription on
    an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

    God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
    courage to change the things I can,
    and the wisdom to know the difference

    I have an uncle who's a retired army colonel and spent a lot of time working in the Pentagon. He won't come out and give specific details, but he knows enough about what's going to happen that they've build a fortified room in their basement for food storage. These are very yuppie people who normally wouldn't be worried about this kind of thing, but their preparing for something...

    I'm reading a book about the Great Depression that was written in the mid-1960s. What happened then is quite similar to what is happening now.

    I just finished a book on the Great Depression as well. It is by Daniel Roth and was a diary his father kept during that time.... a very interesting read.

    I am doing more of the same. Stocking up on food where I can. I am getting 48 pounds of peaches next week that I am going to freeze. Went to 2 grocery stores today to get the loss leaders. Will hit one more tomorrow to get basics like peanut butter, pasta sauce, etc... we are definantly watching things pretty closesly

    We live in Australia but to be honest I'm not that concerned yet. My husband is in a stable job that he won't be retrenched from and we have minimal debts (small car loan and small mortgage) but if the stock market crashes it will see interest rates going down.

    We are prepared for the price of food to rise and utililies.

    Did the Canadian stock market crash? The American markets had a rough day but no worse the the rough days last week. It ended up higher than it did a few days last week The market is still doing that up and down thing.

    Similar situation here. I'm in Denmark, stable job, no debt except a small mortgage, and large savings.

    I have better things to do than worry about the sky falling, but I'm very glad to be out of the US and to have taken all my money with me. I would not want my life savings in USD.

    It is making me worried. Freezers are no stocked properly and I do not have fuel oil for winter. Keep waiting for price per gallon to drop. Anyone know if this is the time to buy fuel oil of if I should wait a couple more weeks?
