    Default pedialyte

I was just wondering if anyone is including Pedialyte in their prep supplies. I am at work in the ER and we are constantly using Pedialyte and it made me think....."hmmmm.......wouldn't that be something necessary to have?"

Is Pediatlye or an "electrolye solution" included in your supplies?
    Thank you!

I am, sort of. I have a recipe for homemade gatorade that I keep the ingredients for on hand, and pedialyte is about 1/2 strength gatorade (I have to look it up but I think that's the ratio).

All I use for homemade gatorade is:

    1/2 c sugar
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp salt substitute
1/2 cup OJ or 2 Tbsp concentrate
1 packet of unsweetened koolaid (for flavor improvement. Don't use red!)

add all this to a clean, empty 2L bottle or 1/2 gallon bottle, fill with water and shake well (I usually use warm water to dissolve everything then fill with cold)

DH reminded me this morning about the "sick bags". I have 2 kits set up for when someone in the house is sick, one for gastro-intestinal upset, one for cold/flu. We stock up when things are on sale with a coupon, then keep everything in a bag together.

Stuff I keep in the GI bag: Pepto, homemade gatorade mix, epsom salts, an old sheet set and towel-turned pillowcase, saltine crackers, candied ginger, Tums.

Stuff in the Cold/Flu bag: Dayquil, Nyquil, Theraflu, etc. Homemade gatorade mix, lemon tea bags, a small container of honey, thermometer, tissues, cough drops.

The idea behind this is that it cuts down on midnight pharmacy runs, and we always have what we know we like for meds. Initially, I did this on my own for taking care of everyone else, but then a couple months after I started doing this, I caught H1N1. I was completely useless for 3 full days, unable to even get out of bed without help, then barely functional for a week after that. DH was able to grab the bags and take care of me. After that happened and I was feeling better, I added a list of quick and easy meals for DH to make for us!

we have some pedialyte in the juice box containers. They're a bit more expensive, but I had a B1G1 Free coupon and I don't want to have to throw away a big bottle if my boys only need a little.

I've read that you can make your own electrolyte mixture with water, sugar and salt as a last resort
