QuilterMom was able to send me 2 e-mails and asked that I update everyone here.
Here is part of her e-mail
Quote:
It took us two hours just to get out of our county (our county is 72 miles long and we live at the bottom of it). We started out on I-95 and before we even made it 3 exits up the traffic was at a dead stop. We got off and worked our way over to a coastal highway (the one we live beside) and travelled north on it. It was quite slow at times and many red lights slowed us down. The county above us didn't have any gas at the gas stations, but thankfully we had filled the van up at the beginning of the
week. They kept checking with FHP to see what road conditions were and they advised us to stay on back roads and off the interstate, so we did. We were trying to make our way over toward I-75, but the back road we were on had an
11 mile back up of evacuation traffic and we got diverted away from the route we wanted to take.
We were so tired (had been up since 3:30am) and we decided to try to find a hotel. There were none to be had, especially since we have the dogs with us. Some friends that stayed behind called us and were looking on the internet at pet friendly hotels and found one for us. Boy was that an answer to prayer! We are at a hotel in Vidalia, GA. We are staying here through at least Sunday night, but the hurricane is moving so slowly now
that we may have to stay Mon. night as well.
Continue to pray for us.
Please send good thoughts and prayers for QuilterMom, her dh and her little boy. Her little guy wants to be at home and keeps asking to go home.
Hurricane Frances is moving so slowly and should arrive at Florida Sat. sometime. Its expected to cause even more damage that Hurricane Charlie which was only 3 weeks ago.
I'm certainly glad they got out! Please let her know we're thinking about them and praying.
My husband's brother and his family (wife and 4 kids) live right near West Palm Beach and they say they are NOT leaving. We just can't understand why they would put their children at risk or why they would choose to chance being right in the middle of the projected path for Frances or choose to stay where they know almost 100% that they will be without electric and water for who knows how long. Wouldn't it be wiser to pack up and head out to a motel somewhere safe? They are not poor and I'm certain they could afford a motel where their family could be safe. I just don't understand these people!?!? Please keep them in your prayers.
Thanks for the update CJ. Qm's family and all those awaiting the wrath of this storm are in my thoughts and I wish them the best.
