Anyone have a Public Alert Radio?
We just got one and it gives me great comfort knowing we will be warned of serious weather problems, flooding and other disasters.

Well, I think you already know my answer to this one, lol.
Pretty funny that we got these, since we don't get super-great reception here in the valley.

I don't, but I've wanted one ever since I got one for my dad for Christmas a few years back

Jack hooked ours up to our TV antenna that's on our roof and can be rotated with a rotar, lol. That rotar used to be real handy before cable tv came to town and we only got like 2 channels.
Did you get yours to come in better Kimberly?

Nah- not yet.
We need to be able to move ours as there is no way we will hear it upstairs if it is downstairs and vice versa.
We had one of those big rotary antennas when I was a kid. It was great!

We have a NOAA alert radio. We got it back in 1998 after several tornadoes hit the central FL area.

Is this the same as a Weather Radio? I asked around at stores for one a couple years and no one had them. Am I asking for the wrong thing?

I think you are asking for the right thing. You should be able to find them more readily now, alot has happened weather wise and more people want them. Here's a google search that comes up with all kinds of places to buy them. Weather radios and public alert radios all are on the same frequency but weather radios are turned off and on. Public radios give out more information (dangers other than weather) than weather radios (using codes) and are on all the time and go off when a certain code is activated to a problem & tells them to. I do think they make more advanced weather radios now though. Make sense? Probably not, talking about this stuff isn't my thing.Want to talk muffins? I can probably make more sense there.

We have a Weather Radio at work (the city's been hit twice by tornados). When that thing goes off, I think you can hear it through the entire building-- it's loud!
I'd like to have one at home, but haven't talked DH into it yet. He doesn't think it's necessary.

Living in what the Chicago area refers to as Tornado Alley, I really would like to get one of these. Darlene you have piqued my interest in the Public Alert radio
Off to do some research
