Is a passport part of your plan?
It is for us (or soon will be, pending a certified birth certificate for dh). Living in Western WA, we have the ocean to the west, the mountains to the east (impassible right now due to avalanches). That leaves north and south as evacuation options. If the disaster is worse to the south, we could very well find ourselves on the US-Canada border.
So, I've printed the application forms, written down the passport office address and phone number and just requested dh's birth certificate.
How about you?

Nope not us, though it does sound like a good idea.

Yes, my mother taught me to always have my passport current. Just in case I have to suddenly leave the country, whether for emergency reasons or a unexpected travel trip.

I have never thought about this. I do not have a passport. WE have 6 in our family. The thought of purchasing 6 passports is overwhelming! How much does it cost? It is something to think about. We are in the midwest, so we could go in any direction for a ways and stay in the US. But you never know!

I think adults are $97 and children $82 (or something close to that). It is costly, but so are some of the other things we do to prepare. And given our location, it seemed prudent.

Valerie I think you are right to think about this, especially because of your location. I should think of it too. I just in no way have $500 or more for this right now. I don't know if I ever will. I have to think about this more and talk to dh and see what he thinks. The thing about this, is you definitely can't wait until the last minute, or when something happens, to think about getting one. Thanks for mentioning this, so we can plan ahead!

eh Valerie just pick up the passport eh, and come on up here!
I'll teach you to say eh or heh the way we all do, and you'll fit right in!
Plus you can come on up and call it a homeschool convention. You me, and a pot of coffee! If we time it right and act very enticing we might even talk Tina down out of the far middle north of the province to join us.
seriously, we've had to update ours last year, and I'm glad we did.
Since the 9 11 they make you go thru hoops.
And passport photos get rejected up here a lot (smiling is forbidden not kidding!) so you have to have plenty of lead time.
So yes, I think it's a good idea.
I mean after all, a person might win a free trip to Africa or Europe or something and have only a week to respond or something fun like that.
we can hope.

No, we live in the big middle of the US and I don't think a passport would be as helpful to us as some people. But we have them just in case!
