Is dry canning better than mylars and o2 absorbers? (I wouldn't think so, but thought I'd ask). All of my preps like rice and such are in mylar w/ o2 absorbers.

I don't think there would be much of a difference between the two methods both provide an oxygen deprived environment. The heat would help reduce the moisture in the jars but may also alter the nutrient value by a little.

Oh, thank you! I wanted to start canning this summer and I'm going to be buying some essentials in 25 pound increments, so this will help A LOT!

I'm wondering how long the 1/2 gallon jars would take in the oven?

Some use the term for using the LDS's canning machine and packaging things in #10 cans with O2's and then lidding them. Some LDS canneries will let non Mormans use the facilities if they have Mormans with them.
I thought I heard one time that you can buy your own canning machine but it's really expensive.
