Scott Tissue and Septic Tank
Okay Question for everyone and by the way Happy Memorial Day!
I've used The Regular Scott Tissue Toliet Paper for years because it has the label that it's safe for Septic Tanks. I can geta a bunch of coupons for the Extra Soft kind but my mother says that it won't dissolve in Septic tanks. Is this true or is it some sort of gimmick?
Thanks

Gimmick. I've lived with a septic system most of my life and we've used all sorts of tp. It will dissolve. We've never had any trouble. Personally, I like Charmin.

Here are two of several sites that discuss septic tank maintenance.

A factor is the size of your system and the amount of use. A properly sized system should have no problems with normal use.

We have never had any problem with our septic system and we use whatever tp we can get the cheapest (but that is still a little soft
).

Happy Memorial Day to you, too.
The toilet paper will be fine. A few years ago there was serious septic tank trouble here which required someone to come out and pump it and clean it out - not nice in the heat of summer. Sorry neighbors
. The guy that cleaned it out showed (yes I looked) me chunks of this clay-like gray matter, he said it is what you get when you use powdered laundry detergent, and it stays until it gets physically cleaned out as he was doing. Toilet paper, though, no problem. Also he went on a while about the amount of antibacterial products that get flushed down the drain killing off the bacteria needed to help the septic system function properly. Been a big increase in septic issues for that reason.

Yep, adding bacteria to your septic system will help. We add it about 2 or 3 times per year to keep things in balance.

I've used Rid-X and but there is another less expensive alternative... I can't think of what it's called. It may be produced regionally if I recall from the package.

I was wondering the same thing about Scott toliet paper. I just switched to Scott about a month ago and worried about if it would break down in the septic tank.
Thanks for the links for more info.~*Michelle*~

TP is made to disolve whether it's in a septic or in the town sewerage plant.
