Am I following this correctly? If you go to some of the above mentioned sites and download this stuff I would not have to buy Norton? I have XP.

I don't know about Vista, but on XP it's in the Control Panel...and it's called "Windows Firewall". Hopefully they didn't change that too much when they developed Vista.

Awesome YankeeMom, thank you! It really helps to see visually where to check the setting. I was especially curious to know if it was already ON or not and it was! I also see there is something there called Windows Defender that scans for spyware...didn't know about that one either! I love learning new stuff from the forum...thanks!

AVG is still offering their antivirus .. just not the old one. It is a new version and a pain compared to the other one but the best I have found. I eventually figured out how to JUST scan the files I needed scanned. I have used it for a couple of years I think and found it very good.
