Wedding gift
My BIL is getting married in November, DH is the best man and DD is the flower girl. We are very close to BIL, he and I are the best of friends. We'd like to get them something nice, and they have of course, signed up at different stores for the things they want.
I am the type person that prefers to get them something meaningful, because I know them personally and I'd like to put some real thought into it...without spending a fortune. I figured that maybe some of you might have some great ideas you wouldn't mind sharing with me.
Thank you in advance!!!

could you maybe tell us a little bit about him and his intended bride? What is their lifestyle? What are their likes?
Without knowing them at all, I will tell you one thing I did for a couple once...
Get a digital or single use camera. Get a photo album. Go around to their friends and family. Ask them to give one piece of advise or one wish for the couple. Take their pic, and when you put it in the album, print out their quote in nice font and print out to put below their pic in the album.Last edited by Missy; 07-08-2008 at 03:17 PM. Of course, how silly of me!
She's: early twenties, religious, innocent, naive, friendly, in college for elementary education, she wants roosters to be the theme in her kitchen (which he hates), family is extremely important to her!
He's: late twenties, attends church, news photographer/videographer, hard worker, family is extremely important to him too, collects fire trucks and other fire related collectibles.
I expect they will both enjoy entertaining friends and family at thier home/apartment. No children, but they do hope to have children in 3 years or so. They both volunteer at their local fair on the fair board. Both are country people.
I guess what I'm hoping for are two different things to give me ideas to work with:
1. What was your favorite wedding gift that you use all the time/regularly?
2. What's something meaningful you received or have given?

My oldest is getting married in October. We got them a new stove and fridge for their early wedding gift when they bought their house last November. BUT...last time we took a ride to Lancaster PA to get Amish produce last year, I picked up to very large very pretty family tree "posters" that were on a beautiful linen type paper. I've been filling it out carefully all year including adding my future son in law's info. When my old across the street neighbor went to a nursing home, her family tossed almost all of her stuff to the curb, including a very large guilded victorian frame (with the original glass) that probably held a wedding picture or something..the family tree is going in there-getting wrapped and being given to the bride and groom as a little extra gift from me and my hub.

For my sister's wedding last year, we got them a personalized leather Bible with their names and wedding date engraved on the cover. I think it was around $50-60. I loved it.
They had registered at Target for a cheap bookcase, so we got that also, with the idea that the Bible would go on the bookcase.

I love the ideas mentioned. How about a family Bible. My daughter got her sister and her hubby a nativity set! I thought that was pretty cool. One of my favorite wedding gifts is a picnic basket filled with goodies! You could also include a poetry book in it. My boys chipped in and got there brother and his wife a lawn mower. How about a grill or lawn chairs. Some romantic DVDs and a popcorn maker might be nice. A scrapbook with their childhood photos.

Engraved wedding picture frame.
If you can cross stitch or paint on fabric how about matching pillow cases with their names on them.
A gift certificate to have a quilt made of their wedding pictures.
