Green Tomatoes - where to put to ripen?
Someone posted awhile back and I've been searching in vain for the post - but I can't remember what the original thread was about. Anyway, they picked their green tomatoes last year because of an early frost and put them in something, covered with something, and stuck it somewhere.
Does anyone remember the post, or doing this, or know what the somethings were?

I always just put mine on a windowsill in the sun.

I don't have a window sill, or any other kitchen space. I think this was longer term storage.

wrap each tomato in black & white newspaper, place in a cardboard box, stack so they wont smash each other, store in a cool dry place. I check every so often to see if any have ripened, I can sometimes have fresh tomatoes until Christamas time.

Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

Yep they ripen faster and sweeter if you place them in a dark closed place like a brown paper bag or a cardboard box with newspaper to keep them from getting bruised. They give of a gas as they ripen that actually triggers them to ripen faster if the gas does not dissipate.
This works very well for not quite ripe fruit too.

Well, I just read at a University agriculture website that you're supposed to let them ripen in a cool, HUMID space, away from sunlight. Mine have been ripening just fine in the basement...

Thanks for the info...I have many green ones, and I don't think they will be turning red before the first frost.

Green tomatoes
My mom used to make green tomatoe mincemeat and also green tomatoe relish etc. So if you don't want to just store the tomatoes you could make quite a few other things with them as well.
