    Default Aldi's question...

A new Aldi's just opened up on my way home from work. I've been waiting for one in my area. My question is, what do you tend to find cheaper there (I am NOT brand specific, so taht won't be a problem)? Meats? Cheeses? Dairy, Frozen, etc?? I'm trying to get an "idea" of the place before I head over.

    Thanks!
    Jen

Where I live most everything is a better deal. Sometimes I can do better on a sale item somewhere else but probably 95% of our groceries come from aldi.

I usually find a better deal on items that I cannot get coupons for like cheeses, lunchmeat, milk, eggs, flour, sugar, etc. I also buy their canned soups and veggies. HTH!

I find snacks (bagged chips, boxed crackers, dried fruit, granola bars) to be cheaper at Aldi. Also most of the fresh produce is cheaper...but be sure to look at it carefully. They're not the best at keeping the rotted stuff out

I also get a lot of my baking supplies at Aldi. Cooking oil, flour, sugar, etc are almost always cheaper at Aldi than anywhere else...unless there's a great loss leader sale.

I also get water softener salt there for our water softener. It's half the price at Aldi as it is anywhere else.

Canned foods are cheaper at Aldi than anywhere else I've found. I stock up on canned veggies, fruit, tomatoes (they even have their own "rotel"), beans, mushrooms, etc.

Great! Thanks everyone! I knew it had to be a deal since I saw my grandmothers receipt and she got bread for $.69 and eggs for $.99.

Around here, everything is ALOT cheaper at Aldi's. Sometimes even half the price or less than the other chain grocery stores.

I don't buy meat or produce there, becuase I only buy those from the other stores I frequent and only buy what is on sale, so I pay less there than at Aldi's. However, we did get ground beef from Aldi's last week, becuase I couldn't find a deal anywhere else and I wasn't thrilled with it. It was really bland (and honestly, I never thought I would describe ground beef as bland, but it was). Otherwise, I've never been unhappy with any product I've bought there in over 10 years and I do 95% of my weekly shopping there!

Good luck! You'll love it once you've tried it, just take your own grocery bags and take a quarter to "rent" a shopping cart! (Don't worry, you get your quarter back when your done shopping)!

I became an Aldi convert when I noticed the milk prices. Now here (ohio) it is $2.49/gallon. At the big box grocery store it is normally $3 (+). My family (4) drinks 3-4gallons a week. The cheeses and yougurts are great, also the pantry staples, flour, sugar. Kids accept the cereal, and canned pastas, soups for lunches.
Stay away from the produce, unless you are using it immediatly. You will find name brand stuff there too. I do bring my own bags. The kids fight over who will put in/take out the quarter.

I do most of my shopping at Aldi's. I buy my meat at the bigger supermarkets when they have sales. I don't really like Aldi's meat except for the ham slices. They are also carrying the yogurt that is like Activia and my husbands says it tastes just as good and it is a whole lot cheaper. Give it a try and I am sure you will do most of your shopping at Aldi's.

This was a very informative post, as I recently heard Aldi's is coming to Florida. I now can't wait till it gets to my area!

I also meant to add to my post that they have a really, really nice website. You can check it out before you go, I don't think it'll give you prices or anything, but it'll give you a really good idea of what the store is like!

They also have weekly specials on random things (not their grocery products, but some of the other things they sell), so I check those out once in a while online. Just do a websearch and you'll find them!

thanks everyone for the info! I'm going to go this friday. I have a good 3 pounds of ground turkey and a HUGE thing of chicken so I won't b eneeding meats. we are only home 5 night sof the next two weeks so most things I need will be lunches. Do they have a deli? Or deli prepacked meats at comparable prices?

No deli. No bakery. No fresh fish. Everything is packaged stuff/frozen stuff. They do have lunch meats, ham/turkey/bologna/salami, but it's not deli stuff. It's their brand like Oscar Mayer stuff.

Even though its prepackaged it's considerably cheaper than deli meats. At the Kroger deli here the cheapest price I find on boiled ham(the cheapest ham) is $3.99 on sale, cheapest turkey is usually 4.99 on sale and roast beef is 6.99 on sale. Aldi's usually runs less than $2. I buy pretty much everything at Aldi's even meat. The only thing I found I didn't like was the ground turkey. I prefer Jenny-o brand and they don't carry that.
