Question how do I alter a bra?

I have lost some weight and now my bras don't fit. I just recently bought new ones and I'm hoping to lose more weight so I don't want to replace them just yet.

Any ideas on how I can alter the bras? They mainly aren't fitting around the band. The cup still seems fine.

Cut an inch or two out of the band and resew it on the machine several times to make sure it holds. If the cups get too big, you could add darts.

If the bra still fits well in the cup size and across the front, you only need to adjust the back on either side of the hooks.
Put the bra on, and getting a friend to pin for you, have her make a vertical pleat about 2inches in from the hooks.( on each side)

If you can sew it on a machine, great, and stitch on the same line twice, backstitching the ends of seams for strength.
If sewing by hand use a small backstitch.
It is more comfortable if you leave the extra fabric folded in when wearing rather than trimming the seam.
    Happy sewing!

I have shortened the back band also by hand.

I'm still trying to figure out the darts to make the cup smaller ( don't need that yet)

    Any tips on that?

Slightly trickier doing the cups, we all shrink in different ways. Determine where the extra fabric is, on top of the breast,at the side etc. Make a two-ended dart (one that tapers to a point at both ends) making sure the end facing into the cup is heading in the direction of your breast 'point'.
Sew by hand or machine. This is easier with soft-cup rather than underwire

Only soft sups for me no underwires.

Thanks for the directions. I think I can do that.
