    Default HELP! Hair color question

I colored my hair last night with Nice n' Easy #118, natural medium brown. Well, it looks black to me! My natural hair color is really a dark brown, but now I look like Elvis! Is there anything that I can do to make it better? I have read about Lor'eal Color Zap, but have never tired it. Also I read something about Head and Shoulders shampoo or a clairfying shampoo. Any hairdressers out there that can help? I usually color my hair a little lighter than this, but it always turns out kind of reddish. I wanted more like my original color, so I went a little darker. OOPS

Any advice you could give would be appreciated!

Have you looked at it in the natural sunlight yet?
It probably looks so dark because you're indoors....and it probably looks great!

I have found it's always darkest the first day. Wash it again really well with shampoo and then look at it outside before you panic.

Wash it a couple of times, the color will fade with each shampoo

I agree, even permenant hair color washes out after a few washes! After a week or so, it'll probably be about the right color that you originally wanted!

Wash it with green dish soap.It sounds silly but it strips it out a bit. Be sure to follow with conditioner. I better not let this secret out or my clients wont pay me $30 to fade their botched colors a bit, LOL

Thanks for the tips. I did wash it this morning with Suave clairfying shampoo. It does seem better and I could see from the rinse water that it had faded a bit. I will try the green dish liquid. And, I have not seen it in the natural sunlight. It was dark when I did it and still dark this morning.

Thanks so much everybody! Have a great day!

Just for anyone's future reference..Pert shampoo will strip haircolor quite efficiently, but isn't quite as awful as dish soap for your hair. Just condition like mad afterwards.

So if you LIKE your new haircolor, DON'T use Pert for any reason.

Once I used a semipermanent dye on my hair, and when it turned burgandy (!), I washed a lot of it out with laundry detergent.

Yes, green dish soap/or Prell shampoo will lighten a coloring that turns out too dark.

It means that you didn't rinse enough of it out or you let it set longer than it needed to be on for. Hair color adheres to your hair the more that it's in contact with it. That's why they tell you to rinse until the water runs clear.

I usually give it one to two shampoos before it fades to the color I want. My hair color never lasts six weeks anymore anyways, which makes me sad because I have grey hairs now and I hate my natural color.

My hair turned purple once. I was not a happy camper. But did discover dawn was my friend.
