I love my food processor. I cook from scratch and make about 200 burritos at a time ( so my recipe calls for tons of onions and jalepenos etc) it is worth it to me for that alone...lol I do use it for alot of things. I cut up things for my salsas, sauces , veggies for recipes.
Some people use it to make their pie crusts or pizza dough. I wouldn't advise it ...trust me. My dh went through one making dough for our pizzas ...lol now we just use the kitchen aid or by hand as we make lots.*Angel*

Depends on how much you cook from scratch and how much you cook each time. Around Christmas, I use mine non-stop for cookies. I use it when I do OAMC. But if I'm just making something for myself, I tend not to use it, mostly because I keep mine under the counter, and it isn't worth pulling it out, setting it up, disassembling it, washing it,and returning it for small projects.
When you DO need to chop up a large quantity, or shred large bunches of carrots, zucchini, etc, it is GREAT to have!!DH aka Mad Hen

I don't use my big one too often although it's nice to have. I DO use my mini one all the time. I cook from scratch about 95% of the time

Thanks you all. I do cook from scratch A LOT and plan to do more. I have read several recipes that say put in food processor, etc. and was wondering if I needed one!

I can tell you that if you think you will use one for sure, then it will be an extremely useful tool for you in the kitchen and whatever you do go ahead and get a larger one. For years I just had a small 4 C. size and when needing it for larger amounts I had to do a little, empty it, do some more, empty it, etc. Last year DH surprised me with a new larger 10 C. one that was around $45. You would bot believe how thankful I am that there is no more emptying and refilling. I use mine frequently for chopping or shredding larger amounts of veggies, meats, cheeses, etc. It's not used daily, but when it's needed I sure do appreciate having it.
Other than getting a larger sized one, I do recommend making sure it has a pulse feature or button instead of just an on/off switch. And check the watts. Most are powerful now a days but go for one that has a lot of watts for the most power.

I got one for Christmas years ago. I really, really wanted it. I will say, it has saved me quite a bit of time over the years, however, to be completely honest, I basically only use it anymore to shred blocks of cheddar cheese. It's a great tool IF you'll use it.

Most recipes that say to put in food processor can be made quite readily without one. They'll just require a bit more elbow grease.
I went for many years without a food processor, and made TONS of cookies just hand-chopping.
It is definitely a luxury, rather than a necessity, unless you are mass-producing products, but that doesn't mean it isn't nice to have one if you can afford it!
Mine is a big ol' Cuisinart - probably ten years old now and still going strong.

I just got a brand new one with a LARGE mouth and a big bowl. I use mine for homemade salsa and I graduated my old 22 year old one to grinding up laundry soap bar.
I 100% am happy with mine! The math never lies, budget in INK!

Oooh, I want one, too! LOL.
There are just certain things that a blender can't handle, so I really need a food processor. I do a lot of cooking from scratch, and it would help me out a ton.
Let us know how it goes!

I have an old (+10 or more) Hamilton Beach one I'm wanting to replace. The plastic piece that holds the blade up to slice and shred keeps breaking. Do any models/brands make one with a metal piece instead? I broke it the last time grating soap and haven't glued it back together yet.

I'd love to get one too! My problem is that I wouldn't use it enough to justify having one. I hate having to chop onions, carrots, celery, etc and get all that stink/color on my hands.

I don't use mine a lot but it's still worth having. I mostly use mine to make falafel.
