Default My bank made a mistake in my favor, will they catch this?

On Halloween, I withdrew 325.00 in cash. I more then likely got a receipt. I filled out the withdrawal slip.

I just checked my bank account online. The withdrawal was never withdrawn from my account.

They haven’t caught this mistake yet. It’s been almost two full weeks. Will they ever?

They will probably find it and if you have used the money, your account could over draft. I agree with call them. They may claim they don't make mistakes like that.

Could it have possibly came out of savings instead of checking? Or maybe some other account?

I worked in a bank, they will catch it. More than likely if it was done by a teller she transposed a number on the computer and it came out of someone else's account. When that person notices, all the doc.s will be pulled for that teller's transactions on that day and they'll catch the mistake. It may take up to two months, but it will happen.
Call and let them know, for no other reason than to save the other person bounced check fees and a lot of hassle.

I agree with the others, I would call. It would just make life simpler for everyone, and it's the right thing to do.

Personally, I think you should call them to let them know. The withdrawal tickets could have gotten lost or posted to another persons account.

I work in a bank and I know that if that teller's drawer is off by 325$ that can lead to some very serious consequences for him or her.

It's also a moral issue for me. I would hate to think that your 325$ got withdrawn from someone else's account and caused that person all sorts of problems.

That is what would eat on my mind constantly. In todays times with people hanging onto ever dollar I would be sickened to think that the money meant to come from my account mistakenly came from someone else's account that is not doing well in this economic crisis and this caused them to either be behind on a payment of their own and cause all sorts of trouble for someone who didn't need trouble or it caused them and their family not to be able to buy groceries. Those thoughts alone would have made me not even question what to do or if they will find the mistake. I would bring it to their attention immediately.

My thoughts exactly, TexasPeanut. The $350 error is leaving money in your account that isn't yours.

You know what the right thing to do is.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I would call the bank and ask them to check it out asap ... I would feel better telling them, before they tell you. Also it will come back to haunt you... you'll end up having to pay it back at probably the worst time possible for youself ... Just easier to call and tell them that you noticed.

I would call them. It is the right thing to do. I believe in karma and the ten fold theory, it would really stink to have $3500 get zapped out of yours at some point in the future and have no one own up to the incorrect withdrawal.

I would let the bank know what is going on. It is the honest thing to do.

I would call the bank for sure. Just think if the mistake was made against you, how would you feel.

I was on the other side of this. I deposited a check that ended up in someone else's account. The bank took care of it and assured me they would find the mistake.

I would definately let the bank know. I worked in a bank for 13 years, and this could cost someone their job if they are out $350. They will probably eventually catch it, but the damage might already be done by then.

I totally agree. Call . Yes they will find the error. I would hate to think of someone in curing a problem due to an error that might affect them in a disastrous way until this is ironed out.
