Disgusting Idea?
This is a kind of silly question, but do any of you vacuum your kitchen floor? Or does everyone just sweep it with a broom? I was thinking that vacuuming may pick up the smaller bits better, but I don't want to ruin my vacuum. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?! I can't decide if it's a disgusting idea or an ingenious idea!

I vacuum mine. If there is something wet or sticky, I wipe it up first before I vacuum so the vacuum brushes don't get yucky and spread the dirt around. I also wash the vacuum brushes and other vacuum tools (I have a canister vacuum) a couple of times a year.

I use my shop vac! I figure anything gross won't clog the filter on that one! Then I use my carpet steamer to clean the hardwood. I have not mopped my floors in years. To me, mopping is gross, becuase it just swishes the dirt around on the floor. My steamer actually puts the water & soap down on the floor, then sucks it and the dirt back up into the machine! Love it, and wouldn't do it any other way!
I started using my vacuum in the kitchen after we got dogs in the house. It is the best way to keep dog hair under control and that is my pet peeve!

I vacuum my kitchen and dining room floors, I have a rainbow vacuum so it has a specific tool for that and then I mop with my shampooer on the rainbow as well....when we had a regular vacuum, it did not have a "bare floor" setting so all it did was blow or throw the crap around the floor and when it sends a pebble into your foot...well, you give up on that quick!!
I also like the fact that it does not kill my back to do the mopping!!Proud wife to Randy

I vaccum mine. It never occurred to me not to. It's hardwood, so I vaccum, then steam it.

I vacuum and have for years. I love how easy it is to get the corners, under things, and I to have dogs in the house. Its great at picking up the hair! My canister vacuum was bought for this reason, and its so easy to get the edges!

see, I would have never thought of vacuming my kitchen floor
(reason number 2548 why I love the village!!)
I sweep my kitchen with a dustmop and then mop it......it's duraceramic tile - I do my hardwood floors on my hands and knees, spray the cleaner and wipe with a cloth(entry way and dining room)

I vacuum my kitchen floor also because it is easier than sweeping and the vacuum does a better job anyway. I use my regular vacuum on the bare floor setting sometimes, but other times I drag out the shop-vac to get the corners and under the cabinets really cleaned well.

We shop vac it usually before wet mopping. Matter of fact we shop vac the entire house seeing how it is all hardwood floors.
Love hardwood, no more carpet cleaners, a spilled coke isn't the end of the world $30 is all we ever need to spend for a new vacuum.
Floor is always clean.

I have this argument w/ fiancee all the time. He says you're not supposed to vacuum kitchens or bathrooms. Since it's a washable canister, I don't see the issue. I vacuum when he's not looking, then mop.

I have an old Lab, who loses hair in clumps, even though I brush him with the 'furminator'.
I have a little quick-vac thingy with good pickup that I use on the kitchen floor all the time.
