Question about buying a cell phone from E-bay

I need to buy my DH an other cell phone his is on it's last leg we have a Verizon plan buy don't want to extend our contract because we are now on month to month because we have completed our last contract about a year ago and the cost of buying a phone only thru Verizon is out of our price range.

I have looked on e-bay and see a lot of options that are affordable and state they are unlocked. Should I take a chance what do I have to look for?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You have to make sure you get a phone that is a verizon phone. No other type of cell phone will work because Verizon does not use a SIM card.

If you are looking for just a plain cell phone, consider the tracfone.
You can buy them at Walmart for $ 30 in a pkg deal that has double minutes promotion for the lifetime of the phone. This is a phone that has the flip cover and has a camera in it.
We only got our first one in September this year. We both got one. Hubby lost his first one deer hunting. We got him the second phone and were able to transfer his minutes plus his phone number over. About 3 weeks later, his cousin finds the first one in the woods, and it is still working. It was in a clip on your belt case we bought from Walmart. We are going to keep it as a backup phone in case something happens to the one he is using now.
I would have to reregister it to make any calls on it. Camera works, everything in the menu area, etc. Takes a beating and keeps on ticking

You just add minutes when you need them. No monthly contract.

I bought one of my daughers the new "slider" verizon phone on ebay, not a single problem, investigated alot of them and went with a seller that had a good history and we are very happy.
