    Default Metal coat hangers

Does anyone have any ideas, tips or uses for extra wire coat hangers? I seem to have a lot of extra ones and I'm trying to find new uses for them.

I got rid of most of my wire hangers thru Goodwill. Kept 3 for emergency uses. There are times when only a wire hanger will do - not for hanging clothes, but for craft uses or other things.

    I loved that movie LMAO
OK, seriously, hubby had a job that the uniform co. there left us with about a million of them! So, Ive fixed fencing with them, I use one to clean out my vacuum hoses and I keep one in each car, just in case!
Then I shape them with a pair of needle nose pliers, attach lights to them and voila...christmas ornaments for your lawn and roof and where ever else you can think to hang them!!
I also use them to twist into hangers for the lil wood ornaments I make, like the ones you see in stores that say, " welcome" and stuff like that!!

If you have a large number of spare clothes hangers (or anything else) just offer them up on freecycle. Some people don't have as many clothes hangers as they need, and could use yours. Freecycle is great in general to find new homes for stuff you have in excess.

Keep on hand to "snake" the bathtub drain or to jimmy the lock when you've locked your keys in the car.

This is one of my favorite uses for old wire ( and i would think you could do it with hangers)

    http://www.craftsonawhim.com/node/52

    Here are some other ideas:
    make a giant bubble wand
Make into mobiles and hang old photos or other things off them
Make a mini-green house. Bend the hangers into U's, invert and put them into a window box, wrap with a dry cleaner bag or cellophane, poke small holes into it and you have a mini green house!
Use them to hang potted plants.

I used a wire cutter and cut my hangers into 6" lengths. Then I use pliers to shape them to hang things on my peg board.

I use them to hang small parts in the garage when I am painting them. I also hang my buffing wheels on them to dry after I wash them. They are also good for holding exhaust parts, brake calipers, and driveshafts when they are disconnected for service.

I use them to make hangers to hang my mini blinds on a shower curtain rod to clean them in the bathtub.

You can make the neatest weath's out of them! Make a circle out of the hanger, then cut strips of old material, tie the strips to the wire until it is totally full. Then add pine cones, extra ornaments or just leave them plain. They make awesome gifts that cost next to nothing if you have old scraps of material. You can also use bagies, plastic grocery sacks, tissue paper, about anything you can cut in strips and tie on there.
I have made a couple and they always turn out great!

I use them to make wreaths (evergreen, grapevine, bittersweet, etc) They also work good as "stakes" in the garden.
If you want to use them as hangers, just add two of the springy clothespins and they are perfect for hanging pants on.

I take all my wire hangers to the local dry cleaners.....I guess they use them, recycle whatever.
