Any natural remedies to help with blood pressure.
I've had high blood pressure for a while and I've been on numerous meds. I've been very sick for the last few weeks and my meds have been changed again. I'm just wondering if anyone has any natural remedies, herbs, etc. that they use to help with their blood pressure. Thanks in advance.

I agree, healthy eating and lots of excersise and if overweight bringing your weight down. Our family doctor told us this and we've worked hard on doing it. Our b/p is down exactly where he wants it.

My hubby has high blood pressure along with high cholesterol & triglycerides. Our doctor has him taking 1000 mgs of fish oil a day (he takes 2 - 500 mg capsules) and he told him to eat garlic.

Of course healthy diet and a bit of working out have an impact, but I'll also add that I had some high blood pressure issues a few years ago and I was told that eating celery every day has an impact. Mine was situational, so I'm not really sure if it helped or not or it was just the natural progression of things that got it back down, but at least it's something little so it was worth doing anyhow.

I can only tell you my experience, and of course, I am NOT a Dr. My Dr. thinks I am on BP meds. I ride an exercycle and don't add salt to anything. I use spices, herbs, Mrs. Dash (which comes in a bunch of different blends) and pepper. The last time I was at Dr's office, the nurse bragged about how good my BP was.
This is a pet peeve of mine that Drs never ask me about diet or exercise or salt. My brother had high BP, his Dr told him to cut down on salt and that took care of it. Every Dr I see wants to cure EVERYTHING with a pill. I just can't believe that is always necessary in every case.

Thank you all for the tips. I should have thought about the fish oil as my dh's doctor just told him to take them for high cholesterol and triglycerides levels. He is diabetic so has to take bp meds to keep his bp down because of kidney health. I'll start taking those too.
I've been under a great deal of stress and I know that is why my bp is up. Unfortunately the stress is not going away anytime soon. Its been a very tough year on our whole family and I think the stress of it finally got to me and of course hit me physically.
I've taken meds for years and after so long they just quit and they move me on to something else. I had a stroke at 36 years of age. That was 7 years ago this February 28th.
I never eat salt or add it to food and I do watch my diet but exercise outside of normal activity is limited due to some other health issues. I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgea so there are days I can barely walk. I know the pain also causes my bp to go up.
I don't have insurance nor can I get help...to much income to get help but not enough income to for all these doctor bills I'm paying...so I need to do what I can on my own to get this bp down. Again thanks for all the tips.

I would like to point out that you should never take supplements without discussing it with your doctor. Some supplements can cause adverse affects when mixed with other medications & supplements.

A woman at work told us at lunch the other day that her husband lowered his high blood pressure by taking garlic pills. He didn't change anything else, although she said he should because he's overweight and doesn't eat that healthy.
I hope that helps. I have had high blood pressure off and on too and the Dr. put me on something this summer that my ob/gyn told me to get off of when we were trying to conceive. It's been okay for now, but I'm trying not to stress about my job and my pregnancy (both of these things are difficult for me to do).

Magnesium. Not from someone I know or a neighbor of a cousin who tried it, but from a no crap actual study on the subject. I hope it helps you.

There's so info to take in when it comes to things like that. I wish salt would raise my blood pressure. Mine is low and I get lightheaded easily. I hover around 100/60 generally. Definitely not from diet or exercise!
My grandma exercises every day and eats well and her bp has been high forever. I've known a couple people like that.

heartofmine, I did some research online and I thought I would include this website for you. It's on home remedies for high blood pressure. Of course, you should probably consult a Dr. in case any of these remedies could interfere with your medication, I know that could be an issue with the high cost of Dr.'s visits. I have found that calling a pharmacy can be helpful. A pharmacist should have some good information or maybe even calling a nurse at your Dr.'s office to confirm the pharmacists advice on over the counter pills/supplement and your current prescriptions.

This is not an herbal remedy or anything like that. My doctor told me that along with minimizing the salt in your diet try to eat as many potassium rich foods as possible in your balanced diet. It really seems to help keep the pressure down.
