    Default kids hair

Does anyone cut their kids hair? My kids wear their hair very simply, no bangs or layers. They all want to grow it out, so I'm thinking it's mostly a question of getting the right scissors and then trimming it.

Between the cost of haircuts, them always coming out wrong, and how long they make us wait so we can pay them absurd amounts of money to hack up the girls' hair...well.

I see a wealth of books on the subject at amazon, are any of them worth trying to hunt up?

I'm a crafty person, clever and able with my hands. I want my kids to be good with their looks, feel good about themselves and able to express who they are. But I don't want to have to go get a job just to pay for haircuts!

I do, have for years. My boys wear a simple clipper style cut, the length of the cut (the number of the blade I use) depends on the time of year and how little hair they want on their head!

My daughters hair grows PAINFULLY SLOW, but I do keep her bangs somewhat straight as they we are trying to grow them out.

I bought an inexpensive Wahl clipper set from WM. It has instructions in there. It's fairly easy for my dh and ds's hair.

Now the set comes w/ hair cutting scissors. If you look in the Frugal board section you'll see my 1st attempt at cutting dd's hair.

Under tips someone posted a you tube video on how to trim bangs. It helps.

Cutting hair is super easy! Alot easier than most people think, and I think it scares them off! I cut everyone's hair in our family, although I have boys and it is easy with the clippers. But I haven't had a hair cut in 3 years. Dh does it for me and he is great at it! And trust me...If he can do it, anyone can!

Dh learned online. So just do a search, like "hair cutting instructions" or something like that and I'll bet you'll find what you are looking for without having to buy a book!

A clipper set with scissors is about $10 here, the price of one cut so after the first one it's all savings. I cut the boys and trim the bottom of my girls' hair. It's not hard. Start on the littlest first. They care less if it's not perfect. I just held my breath and jumped in (14 years ago) and no one has been too embarrassed yet I don't think.

When my kids were growing up I cut their hair (3 boys, 1 girl) and learned through practice. Buy a good set of hair scissors and go from there...when cutting girl's hair a good comb is a must since you cut the hair in sections.

I started cutting my Dh's hair years ago when we lived in FL and he couldn't find anyone to cut his hair. The first few times, I hated it. I thought it looked horrible, however, his hair grows really fast, so I have gotten better over the years. I cut my kids' hair as well because for my Dd, there really isn't much to cut. I just trim the bangs and trim up the back. My son, I just cut it like his fathers, so it was easy and I can't see spending $10+ to get their hair cut. When they get older if they want something special, then I will let them go get it done
