Mastercard Scam..
I was in Walmart this morning and the cashier told me that because of a scam, some Mastercard users have had their cards suspended. Debit and credit. Has anyone heard about this? She said that she has had a lot of customers not be able to buy thier groceries because their cards were declined.

I haven't heard a thing about that but I will now be checking online to see if I can find any information on that. Seems to me that would be the sort of knowledge that would need to be out in the in newspapers and on the media to warn people that their cards are suspended due to a scam and will have to get new ones or something. It just doesn't add up to something that important not being covered by the media.

Not sure if this ties in to this problem but there was a security breach and some card holders are being issued new cards. Here's a couple of sites for info.

I haven't heard a thing about it, you would think there would be something on one of the national news stations at the very least. I have a mastercard, but don't use it for groceries & the like...use it for online purchases.

I know my dd was notified two days ago by our bank that her debit card had been canceled due to her number had been stolen from a clearing house and it was a mastercard. They are reissueing her a new number and she will be receiving one in about 10 days. We dont have one of theirs thank goodness. I only use them for checking account. She is a college student and needed one for books and such. Put a cramp in her lifestyle. I told her if she needed money to let me know. It hit our town pretty hard two of the banks got hit.

i didnt know it was just one specific card. my bank suspended my visa debit card because they said my info had been compromised. i haven't noticed any charges on my account that weren't mine, but they're still issuing me a new card anyway.

Wow that's scary. I have always been scared of something like this happening so I always have my check book with me just in case they are having problems taking debit cards.

I work at a credit union and the cashier at Walmart was right. There was a security breach somewhere at a clearinghouse. We got an email at work with the name of it, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. I know that my credit union has blocked all affected debit cards immediately and reissued members a new card with a new number. I never got one, but two of the people I work with got one as well. I haven't heard of anyone's card number being fraudulently used yet though. Most of this is a precaution.

A credit card clearing house was hacked about 2 weeks ago, and some 100 million transactions compromised. Here's one link of many:

Thanks for the heads up, I use a Mastercard debit card, and so far haven't had any problems. I am going to contact my bank and ask them about it.

There was an article in our paper and on the website of the credit union I use last week letting us know what was going on. Scary stuff.
