Default thinking about my garage sale already...

we have set a date for our annual neighborhood sale the first of may and besides all the obvious junk i need to get rid of...(oh sorry-priceless 'treasures' that i wish to sell...)

any ideas on other ways to make money selling stuff....

i thought about starting seedlings and selling plant starts...
the obvious cookies and zucchini breads...
i make jewelry so i will have some 'inexpensive' stuff made up...

    If it's hot, maybe lemonade.

    Books are always good sellers.

If you can stock up on some free HBA's, that might be something good to sell.

I like the idea of starting some house plants.
I have a huge monster plant right now, that I have big plans for. Take some of the vines off of it, and get them started now in jars to root first. Actually I have a second big house plant also that I already did this with the past summer. I gave the new plants away but plan this time around is to get some ready to sell.

Do you sew, knit, or crochet ?
Maybe craft some items for resale .

I think people are going to be seriously looking for bargains this summer. What you may think is junque is going to be somebody's elses treasure of the week

Maybe buy some cheap soda, and bottles of water, and have them in a cooler for a reasonable amount.

Keep your money on you, unless you have someone to sit with it all the time.

I always make a bunch on HBA's. Even if they are used, people will buy them. I was thinking about having water and some pop also. My annual garage sale is usually in May or June. I think about mine year round!

No, I make a bunch of money selling them. I get them at Walgreen's on their free after rebate stuff or for real cheap and then if I don't use them, I put $1.00 price tag on them and they go like hotcakes. Pure profit for me.

You know Mother's Day is May 10th so maybe you can play on that holiday.

Have a table set up specifically geared towards Mother's Day gifts...your seedlings would be a great start, but maybe some flowers in little pots would be a good idea. My dil gave me a Dragon's Wing Begonia in a Mother's Day mug...it was beautiful and I loved it. I transplanted the begonia into one of my deck rail pots and use the cup to this day. So if you have spare coffee cups that you were planning on getting rid of you could plant a flower in the cup and charge $1-$2 each for them...tie a ribbon around the handle for added flair.

What i have seen around here is people finding stuff on curbside loke old dressers ect and painting them to look shabbychic.I know someone that does, she will pick up a free dresser or 1 under $10 and redo it get some inexspesive knobs. She will sell it for $75 to 200 depending on the look.

If it's hot, have a cooler of cold drinks and sell that. If it's cold, have a coffee maker and (ugh) go cups.

    What are HBA's?

I am curious too, what are HBA's...

Oh, and I love the idea of selling stuff besides junk at a garage sale. I will have to consider doing that myself this year! Thanks for the post and the inspiration.

Since this is a neighborhood sale, do you know what is being done for signs? I've found that the more signs I have out, the better. It really makes a big difference. Last summer, with good signs, I had lots of people come to my sale, and I even got compliments on my signs!

The lettering needs to be thick and dark so it's readable. I drive around the area, taking note of any wood posts I can put my signs on and which side of the road they're on (so I know which way to point the arrow). In one spot, the road to turn onto is hidden by a slight rise as you approach, so you can't see the sign either until it's too late. So I also put a sign on a post before the rise, making an arrow that points up and over so they know they'll need to turn (left) ahead. I also used just arrows (same color background & marker color) to point the way through the subdivision. I used clear packing tape to put them on metal light posts and stop signs. I don't know if I was technically allowed to do that, so I promptly took them down when the sale was over. We have several police officers who live in our subdivision, and no one said anything, so for that short of a time I guess it was ok.
