I've done it with some name brand items, coach bags, designer sunglasses, some of the more expensive kids clothes we've purchased. I think it's worth it.

I have and still do from time to time. The return was MUCH better two years ago, but just because prices are down doesn't mean you lose, you just don't make as much.

I did very well on ebay about 10 years ago, but the sales slipped every year and it has just gotten worse and worse. I used to sell everything I listed, now I can go a month or more with no interest at all. I just stopped trying last year. It just got expensive to be paying fees for no results.
You need to do a lot of research. Search ebay and see what kind of similar items are selling (or not) and what the prices of sold items are. Look at all the fees, including paypal costs.
It's becoming less and less worth it to sell handmade items and crafts because the fees are so high relative to the price of small items you can make.
Someone will always be ready with something from China at a lower price than you can even buy supplies for.
Some items have a high default rate, you will get bids and then they won't pay. A lot of bidders don't care, especially now that you cannot leave negative feedback for buyers. It takes a lot of your time and is very frustrating.
Ebay will be no help at all to you if you have a problem. Likewise Paypal.Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown

I sold my college textbooks awhile back on ebay and made a decent return on them. The only thing that got on my nerves about it was having to go and stand in line at the post office if I wasn't really making a lot on an item. For the most part it was pretty straight forward and easy though
