Angry Help! Hubby Is In the Doghouse!!!

Hubby is in the doghouse. He left a pot on the stove with sausage gravy in it and didn't turn off the burner.

This was my very nice calphalon anodized aluminum pot, which now looks burnt up. The gravy burned and caked the sides and bottom of the pot. And I won't even mention the mess all over the stove.

So........ the pot is soaking, but do you have any tips for cleaning it? I don't want to throw it out, as the thing cost $50 new!

Help Hubby come out of the doghouse. Arf arf arf..........

Awww, get poor hubby out of the doghouse! He didn't mean too. I would soak it overnight, put some baking soda and vinegar in it and let it soak. Scrub tomorrow with a scrubbie and hopefully it will all come off. But remember .... he didn't do it on purpose! Give him a kiss and tell him it is okay....

Oh, I've done that too, too many times My hubby swears I'll burn this house down someday {shudder} So from good experience, that I'm not proud of btw , I can tell you that boiling and scraping and repeating over again does the job. If you don't want to boil on top of the stove, pour the boiling water into it while it's on the counter. It'll probably take a few tries.

I also heard that soaking a dryer sheet, along w/hot water in the pan works too. But I was always afraid of the pot having a permanent scent.

Hope whatever you try works. I love my cephalon too

Boil water in it on the stove top with a bit of vinegar added to the water, it works on my hubby's best efforts..and we call him Captain Carbon for a reason.

"But if it cooks in 20 minutes on medium, won't it cook in 10 minutes on high?"

Would this tip also work with a tea kettle that burned dry.......and a pot that was simmering tea that burned dry?

Can't blame anyone but me, myself, and I for these blunders!

I don't know for sure about things that have burned dry but DH swears by "recooking" the burnt on stuff with a little bit of water. I've spent hours scrubbing in the past and making no dent. Then DH would take over and boil, scrap (with a little plastic scraper), and wash. All clean in minutes. Now I don't bother he just gets them all .

why not treat it like you would the racks from the oven...put in in a garbage bag...fill it with vinegar (or whatever you use to clean your oven)....and let it sit overnite....maybe it will wipe right of.... good luck and let us know what works so our dh's can say OUT of the doghouse...

Since I lack patience, I'd run it through the self-cleaning cycle in the stove oven. I've used that for regular aluminum and cast iron many times, although I haven't tried anodized. Of course that won't work if the pan has any wooden, plastic, rubber, etc. parts but if it's like my Calphalon, it doesn't.

Camp Dutch ovens, which are in prolonged direct contact with red-hot coals, are available in anodized aluminum, so for that reason I'd be willing to try putting a burnt-on anodized pan in the oven for cleaning. The finish should be able to take the heat without a problem.

You dont have to tell hubby this trick right away!! But for me, when things are burnt on and stuck like mad, I fill the pan with HOT HOT water and a dryer sheet or 2 (lol yes, that theory works very well)!!!
Let it soak for awhile, i find going in about every 20 minutes and trying to scrub it off to see if it is done works well. But trust me, with 5 budding cooks in the house and a hubby that burns everything I've used this many times and it does work!!
    Good luck!

The nice thing about $50 pans is they can be cleaned up and made new after something like this. Put some water in to cover the burned area, and a couple spoons of baking powder. Simmer for 15-20 mins. The burned parts will come right off. Repeat as necessary. Then explain to DH about using a kitchen timer.

I've always heard if you sprinkle some dishwasher detergent (the powder type) in it and let it soak for a while things come right up.
