    Exclamation raw chicken question

    how long can raw chicken last in the fridge before i ought to toss it??

    Cooked chicken is good for about 5 days. Raw chicken is best used in 5 days (if your frig. is good and cold...) or put in freezer if not used within that time.

    Food safety experts will tell you that if kept at 40F you should use the chicken within 2 days of bringing it home. How old the chicken really is at that point is anyone's guess.

    I don't like to keep raw chicken out for more than 3-4 days, after that I get nervous. I have rinsed off sour-smelling (not rotten smelling) chicken and cooked it and not made anyone sick, but that was my decision and I'm not telling anyone to do this.

    Personally I toss raw unfrozen chicken after 3 days in the fridge. I'm just funny that way & don't like the idea of getting sick.

    I rely on the sniff test. That, and around 2 days past the "sell by" date is max for me.
