Default Frugal goodie bags for child's birthday?

My son turns 5 next Friday. We aren't having a B-Day party but he does go to pre-k. So I was thinking of him taking goodie bags to hand out next Thursday (he goes Tue-Wed-Thur afternoons).

    Suggestions? Pencils? Stickers? Erasers?

If it's a 'at school party' type of thing, what about talking to the teacher ahead of time and sending in sugar cookies for them to decorate with sprinkles etc? You can pick up birthday themed cellophane bags (20/pk) and a spool of ribbon at the dollar store.

Kids decorate their 'big cookies' and the teacher can put them in the bag and tie it with a ribbon for them to bring home.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I would suggest that you do something that will not add to the teachers work. They appreciate that. With Easter stuff out there you can buy plastic eggs at the dollar store and fill them with a hershey kiss,an eraser and another little item.
The kids will love the "surprise"

At one of our thrift stores, they'll bag random small toys up together and sell them for around .49 cents on up to a couple of dollars. I've bought several bags of those and was able to get enough good, neat toys to make goody bags . They were unique, eco-friendly (recycling at it's best), and inexpensive!
    Gratitude.

From the dollar store....colored pencils, colored ink pens, interesting erasers, etc... I'd just poke around and see what I could get there that has multiple items in a package that I can divy up in multiple goodie bags.

Then I'd bake some mini cookies (about 1" or so in diameter) and include 3-4 of them, wrapped in plastic wrap.

Flower seed packets from Wal-Mart at .20 cents each and some mini-candy bars (dollar store)

Target has a great section right in front that usually has multiple packs of little things for a dollar.

Also rite aid and a lot of other stores have the dollar section.

I would put rice crispy treats, cut into fun shapes (like dinosours, cars, horses or what ever your son likes), homemade playdough, pencils, crayons, and such...you could put them in brown paper bags, and send stickers, glitter glue sticks and such for them to "decorate" the bags at school...(with the teachers permission of course)... if that is "to much for the age group, you can print a black and white paper picture of a birthday cake and they could "color it" with the provided crayons.

I'm another one for going nuts at the dollar store. If you really like the teacher, then avoid candy.

You can get candy for cheap right now on sale after Valentine's. I looked at a bag of Dum Dum's yesterday for 70 cents, but they expired in May and my DD's birthday isn't until June.

I also say Dollar Tree, maybe matchbox cars for boys and tiny dolls for girls or a tiara.
