Powdered Bleach
Could someone tell me what is powdered bleach?
Does it work in the same way as liquid bleach?
Is is more or less expensive?
Use on whites only?
Any pro's or con's to using it as compared to liquid bleach?
I've never purchased it before.

Powdered Bleach...
Could someone tell me what is powdered bleach? Either Clorox II or Biz would be considered a powdered bleach. I'm sure there are also others.
Does it work in the same way as liquid bleach? These are made to use on colors or clothes that have both white and colors mixed.
Is is more or less expensive? Quite a bit MORE expensive
Use on whites only? No ususally colored clothes that have a stain, always check the label.
Any pro's or con's to using it as compared to liquid bleach? Liquid bleach should not be used on anything that is not mostly cotton or most colored clothes... but I've used Biz for years! When my oldest daughter was born I was given some used baby clothes that had the formula stains on them.... to make a long story shorter I put them in to soak and forgot them for about a week. I figured everything would be ruined, but to my surprise the stains came out completely ( and everyone knows that formula stains are hard to get out!!) and nothing was ruined. I have used it for the last 29 years when ever I come across something that doesn't come out the first time with a regular wash. I also like "Formula 409" or "Simple Green" for laundry stains!
Hopefully this will help.....

Chlorine bleach comes in liquid and powdered forms - we mostly see it at stores as a liquid (Clorox, Purex, store-brands) . Both liquid and powders contain approximately 5% active ingredient - so one isn't stronger than the other.
Liquids are less expensive than powdered, which is probably the reason we only find liquid chlorine bleach in stores.
There are also OXYGEN BLEACHS and usually found as a powder. These powders come in many names and all are chlorine-free:
One I use is Oxy-Boost - a non-chlorine oxygen bleach that contains sodium carbonate peroxydrates. Less toxic than chlorine bleaches and great for those who are environmentally conscious consumers.
-Ajax Oxygen Bleach Powder Cleanser
-Mrs. Meyer's Oxygen Bleach Stain Remover
-TROPICAL TRADITIONS Chlorine-free Oxygen Bleach
-EVOVER non-chlorine bleach (contains hydrogen peroxide & water)
-OxiClean
-Clorox Oxygen Action (a carbon copy of OxiClean)
They release oxygen for cleaning and bleaching of stains and dirt upon addition to water. Best used in hot water and for best results, use oxygen bleach each time the items are washed. You can use a common item like hydrogen peroxide in laundry for whitening as an example of an "Oxygen Bleach".
"There are three types of oxygen bleaches sold in the consumer market, hydrogen peroxide, sodium percarbonate and sodium perborate. While hydrogen peroxide is a liquid, sodium percarbonate and sodium perborate are powders. Sodium percarbonate is used in deck, carpet, household and laundry cleaning products. Sodium perborate is also a powder and is used mostly in automatic dishwashing and laundry products as a hot water bleaching agent. While sodium perbcarbonate has the highest solubility in water, sodium perborate is more storage stable in detergent formulations."
Chlorox II and Biz are laundry boosters used for soaking, pretreatment and whitening and can be used on all color-fast clothing, unlike chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach also disinfects.
