Default Do I really need to cook the shells?

First when making stuffed shells. I never cook my lasagna noodles.

IN the case of stuffed shells I believe you do need to cook them. I can't imagine there would be enough liquid. You say you don't cook your lasagna noodles and I wonder are you using regular ones or the ones that say no pre-cooking necessary.

I've used regular lasagna noodles for at least 20 years without cooking them first.

I've never made stuffed shells because I hate messing with cooking the pasta beforehand. Now you've got me thinking. I may have to experiment sometime.

You have to at least partially cook shells. Otherwise the shell would break when you attempt to stuff them.

You'd have a harder time filling the shells if you didn't cook them first. The consistency of the shells would also be a lot harder, even after baking them, if you didn't at least partially cook them.

For stuffed shells you need to cook them first. I also make my lasange without cooking the noodles first, I don't use any more sauce than I did before I started not cooking them...I cover the dish with tinfoil to keep the moisture in...plus I start out with a layer of sauce instead of noodles.

I partially cook shells before stuffing them. If I cook them all the way they are a bit too fragile when stuffing them--they tear too easily if cooked all the way.

Even if they got soft enough during cooking, you'd have a lot less filling because they start out so much smaller when they're dry. I'm with you on hating the boiling part, we end up having lasagne instead of shells most of the time.

That's what I'm thinking. How would you get the stuffing in if they are cooked?

Hold them very carefully. I don't cook them all the way, so they still have some firmness while I'm stuffing them.
