Looking for inexpensive face soap and moisturizer
I have been using Clinique for years and years. But over the last couple of months I have changed my tune. Not only can I not afford it, but I just don't think its worth the $$ they want for it. So slowly I am using everything I have up and now need to restock some things.
Does anyone have suggestions for face cleanser and moisturizer? I have normal to dry skin and I am older (43 years old).
Suggestions to try?

I use Ivory soap and Eucerin Q10. The Eucerin is about $11 but so worth it! It moisturizes but never feels oily. The cosmetics lady told me it was on Oprah's must have list.

I like Dove products & use the bar soap (sensitive) for my face. The dermatologist recommended it & Purpose moisture lotion years ago. My skin is combination (slightly oily, minor acne issues). I tried others, but tend to go back to those 2 products.

ST Ives makes some wonderful stuff, and its pretty good. Also don't forget to check out the local Dollar stores, they really do offer some wonderful skin care products.

I second the Oil of Olay products. Not *cheap* but at my age (50) it's the only thing that helps my skin look decent, and I have BAD skin.

I went to a dermatologist a few months back and he said that oil of olay was a really good product and they have a top notch lab. That is what I'm using nowadays.

I have tried Oil of Olay in the past. I didn't like the scent (I hate scents in moisturizers and face cleansers and makeups) and it felt greasy to me. It made my makeup kind of weird. So I used up the bottle by using it at night.
Keep ideas coming!

I have been using either Dove or Aveeno. I use the moisturizers with SPF. I may switch to Garnier Nutrisse because they have one with SPF 28 (I'm using SPF 15 now). Dove is the cheapest, but sometimes Walgreens has Aveeno or Garnier products buy one get one half off or buy one get one free. Also, Walgreens puts stuff 50% and 75% off on their clearance racks which is how I got my Aveeno.

I used to use clinique..now I use oil of Olay. My skin is so sensitive...dryish skin and 41. Total Effects 7x is amazing, but even their cheapest products maintain a great quality, and don't contain too many freaky ingredients.

I avoid chemicals and use plain old coconut oil - the same stuff I use for cooking and baking.
When you apply coconut oil topically, it helps wounds heal faster and improves skin quality. Consumption of coconut oil by using it in cooking/baking or as a butter substitute as a bread spread, it helps keep skin soft, minimizes wrinkles, and has been known to help heal eczema and similar problems.
Source: Eat Fat Lose Fat - by Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon
"While saturated fats help prevent wrinkles, unsaturated fats actually contribute to wrinkles. That's because unsaturated fats are usually rancid and contain free radicals that do a lot of damage inside the body---including promoting wrinkles. Studies performed by several plastic surgeons during the 1980's found that women who consumed lots of vegetable oil had far more wrinkles and looked much older than wormen who consumed saturated fats."
FYI - coconut oil is a saturated fat.

I use coconut oil sometimes. It absorbs quite easily. I use that at mostly at night. Be sure it's cold pressed. I don't care for the smell of it personally so I only use it when I get excema flair ups around my eyes. No idea what brings it on, but coconut gets rid of it.

I have sensitive skin & honestly, most products that I buy 'over the counter' either breaks my face out or makes it burn so bad that I wil have to wash it off immediately.
This is the best combination that I have found that works well:
http://www.purposeskincare.com/productGuideBar.jsp
& this for moisturizing:

So for about $10.00, I can wash & moisturize my face for *at least* 6 months.
The moisturizer will actually last about 2 years, using twice daily, because it is a HUGE container.
Hth!Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...

Try making your own? I've used the lotion base from goplanetearth.com . I'm scent-sensitive too and so tend to either do without or buy supplies from make your own soap places like goplanetearth.
Here's a link to the lotion base:

I'm about ready to order some more. If you want a sample, if you want a sample, I'll send some along. Last time I bought it it came in a plastic takeout container! Anyway, if you're interested, let me know and we'll see what we can figure out.
It's on my list to order this week so it won't be until next week at the earliest before it arrives.
Judi
Note: I ordered body butter base, I don't want a gallon of lotion, I'd never use it in my lifetime! JDLast edited by Judi Dial; 02-26-2009 at 10:16 AM.
