    Default Window Cleaner

Part of my attempt to live a simpler life is to make whatever I can (especially if it would save some $$). I just realized that I'm all of window cleaner.
Could somebody tell me what I could use to make some up? Or is it cheaper to buy windex?

Use vinegar and water in a spray bottle. I also use newspaper instead of paper towels. HTH!!

Thank you! I knew that I had heard of a recipe before, but couldn't remember if it was ammonia or vinegar. Also, if anyone has a website that tells how to make cleaning ingredients (or household products) I would appreciate it.

When I was little, my mother used ammonia and water.

I learned this from a professional window washer.... I mix 1-2 T. cornstarch (just eyeball it) in a bucket (2-gallon) of warm water. Apply to windows with the sponge side of a squeegee and remove with the squeegee end. Best homemade window washing solution I've ever used and I've tried all those mentioned above. It leaves a slight coating/sheeting that repells dust and/or rain (at least for awhile anyway). A good squeegee also is one of the best tools for washing windows - as well as a good microfiber towel. Leave the newspapers (and all that ink you get all over everything) in the recycling bin and leave the paper towels at the store!

Grainlady: thank you! I like the idea of something repelling dust away! I don't have a squeegee or a microfiber towel, but I have some leftover newspapers and that will have to do for today. I believe that I can pick up a squeegee for next to nothing at Fred's or the Dollar Store, though.
Paula: Thank you so much for the link! I clicked on it have have just glanced at it and I can tell that I will be able to gleen so much info from there.

I really appreciate everyone's advice! I can use all of it that I can get.

I've decided that since I'm doing my spring cleaning and washing all the windows anyway, I'll make some fun out of this. I'm going to try each recipe that comes in and see which one works the best! It will be our own contest! the winner gets the (wait for it) Best Answer Award (which is really just the cutest little smiley face I can find since I'm dead broke).

And the race is on! LOL
