Cleaning Bricks?
I had so many wonderful answers on my windex question I thought I'd ask another (sorry ya'll but I'm spring cleaning this week). We have a woodstove that sits on a brick platform. What should I use to clean the bricks? I was hoping to be able to put some luster back in them, but I just can't seem to do the trick. In fact, whenever I get done they still look dirty.

TSP (trisodium phosphate), but keep it away from metal as it's very corrosive. It is available in most hardware stores.

wear gloves with that stuff! it'll eat your hands!
what? did you want them to look shiny new? They're bricks. The only way to get bricks to be shiny, is to coat them with a sealer.
scrub your bricks, let them dry. That should be enough. They're bricks.

Or consider replacing them with bricks with one side glazed. They are shiny like pottery.

Sorry, guess I didn't make that clear. These are the kind that used to have a glazed side. I was hoping to bring that shine back out.
And I should also mention that my friends call me 2%. Why u might ask? Because if something is going to happen to 2% of society, it WILL happen to me. Ex: I once was cleaning and spray painting some lockers for my mother (a teacher) in her classroom and they fell over on top of me and trapped me there for twenty minutes. LOL, it's funny as get out now!
